This aged well hahaha
Yeah - and I’ll stick with what I said. I’m not going to pretend Murphy didn’t make mistakes, but they went both ways and it is what it is. It was a good game - the Brumbies won. I’d rather talk about the game fhen carry on about Murphy who is doing a job I never could.

Yep, it’s ok to vent but then move on rather then still whinging about it 12 months later as some have.

Refs make over 800 decisions a game, they’ll get some wrong and miss some. They won’t be 100% and calls will be subjective, that’s rugby.

Yeh I agree but when refs change the outcome of games and people pretend like it doesn't matter. The game was bizzare. Some decisions in other games would have been 5 min looking and end up in cards. It's just bizzare.

Probably better they didn't spend five minutes looking at a decision right? Surely.

That's kind of the thing. We spend five minutes minutely dissecting a small facet of play, and then wave through everything else.

Pick one. Be NFL or just let the ref do it and let the game play.

Agree. I’m far from blameless when it comes to venting at refs, I’m just over how prevalent it has become and, honestly, I find some of the claims so laughable I often assume people are taking the piss.

And thank god they didn't. Specific calls aside, I thought it was great how little time was spent with the TMO - quick and decisive calls. Can't recall who was up in the box, but he was making calls and sending them down quickly (e.g. the Brumbies' disallowed try and the confusion and repeated request of clarification that followed from Murph, because 4 different angles hadn't been played on the big screen for 5 minutes)

I’d love to see rugby trial ditching the video ref. It would mean you’d have to put more emphasis on the after game review process, but if the aim of the video ref is to get more right decision than at what cost, and I don’t think it is happening anyway.

I will say the lesser lauded Reds, more then held their own against a Brumbies team who have more then twice as many Wallabies Caps as them.

With 9 more internationals in the team the the Reds, I really thought the Brumbies would have strolled home.
We did 16 - 12 winner winner chicken dinner

Huh? That wasn’t the question.

The answer is no btw. That was a tough tight game. Adam’s only point is that based on our team sheet, he and others expected to go down to that Brumbies team by a lot more. But we didn’t - they stood up, and that’s something to be proud of.

Keep it for grounding and serious foul play and we've got a game.

We had to endure him last week. Murphy isn't up to standard. Last week was very one sided. Both sides copped it this week but wow. How he didn't call the hold back at the end of the game. No idea what he is doing.

Agreed, but I think one think rugby does very poorly is understand when the TMO needs to get involved.

Had McReight grounded that ball in goal, there is no doubt a review would have happened to understand the contest between the players.

The officials are quite happy to go upstairs and review forward passes, aruagbly the most difficult play to officiate at times, but when a blantent attempt to hold back a player occurs, there is nothing?

In saying that, I think the Reds leadership team needed to make more of a scene about that. McReight seemed to make a comment and then walk away. How many times do we see plays blow up for foul play after a player stays down or the captain yells at a ref?

Well I have to say I really enjoyed the game. Sure it was messy at times, but a lot of that was down to the intensity. I talking as a neutral ,I thought it was well worth sitting up to midnight (NZ) to watch. I didn't stay for aftermatch, so missed MOTM etc, but to me it was Nick Frost, that fella had a bloody good game, he was supremem in lineouts, carries well and seemed to defend ok.
I actually wondered if I would have enjoyed it as much if I still lived in Aus, as when I did I was in Qld so supported them, but find nowadays I pretty neutral watching Aus games, and think I almost enjoy good ones like this even more.
I will repeat what I have said before in my opinion those 2 teams are as good as NZ teams, and I struggling to see a gap between 2 countries.

I reckon enough inane, inconsequential stuff gets pinged as it is. I’m happy to let a step over the line slide tbh.
That’s just going to creep in like slow scrum setting, water boys running out at every stoppage, players going down injured in own 22, ARs always having to call offside at every breakdown, TMO yellow cards 13 phases after it happened etc etc.

The game has so much potential but is being slowed down and ruined as a spectacle because so much is being tolerated that is a negative for fans.

My biggest concern with the incident is that, in hindsight, McReight would have been more chance of getting the call if he had taken a dive.

I’m glad he didn’t - even if it did cost the game I really don’t want the players going down that path, but you can see why some do.

I came to the last page of the thread to post about the game and saw this at the top of the page.

So i interpret that as being a little more definitive than he needs to be better. Read my post again and let me know what I am bitching about. Now go back and read yours and ask the same question of yourself.
You want me to explain being named by you in a response based on a comment from someone else?

Surely the TMO or one of the touchies saw the hold back and it should at least have been reviewed? Poor officiating. Penalty mid field just out from the try line at least, possible penalty try at most.

The potential foul play aside - the Reds still had a scrum 5m out to win the game essentially. I’m not sure the play they took to try and score straight off the scrum was best option.
