the depth of analysis shown by Alan Jones' 10-point plan

Half of Jones' points are half baked wishlist ideas that are unlikely to be possible or ever come to fruition even if you wanted to. He may as well have had said win the Bledisloe and win the RWC as two of his items.

1. Great idea. Whether it is actually possible is another question. Super Rugby squad members tend to get to spend the most time with junior clubs etc. because they have the least commitments. The test players tend to have the most and are least available.

2. Likely outside of RA's power. Convincing the various private school organisations to completely change how their competitions is not very likely to happen. Pie in the sky stuff.

3. I don't think this is a good idea at all. The opposite in fact.

4. Great idea. Can't be done alone.

5. Would Smith take the job? What would he want to be paid.

6. Two items. More honest communication would be great. More games on FTA would also be great but the finances of that are unlikely to stack up.

7. This is irrelevant. Not currently applicable to any player who is likely to be selected.

8. What does this even mean?

9. What does this mean? Rethink the CEO job? How exactly?

10. I agree the board needs renewal. I'm not entirely sure who should be appointed. Perhaps the nominations committee needs changing?

He's big on shouty headlines. Details are scant. He rails against entrenched self interest on Boards. And yet, the SCG Trust.........
Yeah, I think the Alan Jones saviour-of-rugby ark sailed long ago.

Most of Australian rugby's problems would be pretty easy to solve if we had a couple of hundred million in the bank.

The clowns we have running the game would burn through that in a matter of years with nothing to show for it (as they did in the decade from 2003).

No amount of money would bring success as long as the current structures are in place. Would. Not. Happen. Just. Wouldn't.

Its the only idea there worth considering.

Our leaders - on and off the field - tend to come through the schools system, for better or worse.

Keeping it segmented into little ponds is not helping the fish get bigger. So RA has to find a way to get the comps moving toward unification.

Yes, definitely we're going to have issues with GPS schools flogging other schools. But then, we might also get the odd surprise turn up in a crop of very good youngsters who dust up the flashier schools and put themselves into the spotlight.

Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.

Sorry I just realised: "rethink the CEOs role" and realised he meant "Pfitzy for Arch-Dictator-In-Perpetuity".

However, everyone should be aware that my remuneration requirements have changed:

The $200K base salary is still pertinent, but now I also need a Tesla Model S and 1% of the gate at Tests, PRE-profit.

Every time Raelene speaks it is a stark reminder of the hopelessness of the Board of the ARU. Her broad Kiwi accent says "there are no clever Australians who can lead Australian rugby".
She is no doubt a competent manager of existing operations, but I have seen nothing from her like the depth of analysis shown by Alan Jones' 10-point plan nor GAGR's own Jamie Miller.
I agree up to a point.
It’s very easy for Jones: he’s got the platform; he’s got no power to do anything; he doesn’t have to consider the possibility of legitimate contradictory points of view among stakeholders; it doesn’t matter who he offends.
The fact is that his various official roles reflect his own appalling double standards and nepotism. He’s fine if he perceives you as an ally but god help you when he determines that you don’t adhere to all his views. There’s no room for debate and it’s a dictatorship, not a benevolent one.
To take one example: Quade Cooper. Jones champions him as an example of fucked up management of a huge talent. He may be. But if he had been in a jones coached team (a big if in the first place) jones could not have abided his lack of discipline and poor behaviour. He’d never have lasted on tour or week to week.

At least we are arguing about Jones' 10 point plan. Raelene has not mentioned anything like it. Her long term strategy appears to be missing.
She seems to be content with keeping the current ship on a steady keel and and even course. Unfortunately that course is heading towards the shoals.

8. What does this even mean?
From The Australian:
"Eight. Drain the swamp. That is, the High Performance Unit. The schoolboys and under-20s programs are currently failures. Bring back Scott Johnson or David Nucifora. They are running successful programs overseas.
The appointment of the recently ditched men’s sevens coach, Andy Friend, and the subsequent failure of our sevens side was a metaphor of the mess we are in. If this is the High Performance Unit in action, we need to get rid of it.
The High Performance Unit should be building academies at each Super Rugby franchise and offering fulltime rugby positions to our best young players leaving school. We then won’t have to pay millions of dollars to “code-hoppers”, as we have done in the past.
Administrators getting hair on their chest because they can sign up the latest rugby league star for millions. The money could be better spent.
Invest in our own young players. Our best kids are going to the NRL because we don’t offer them fulltime training opportunities. Everywhere else in the world where rugby is thriving, this is done.
England have done it for 15 years. Recruit England’s Rob Andrew or Australia’s Michael Lynagh to help set up the academies."

Trump aka populist rhetoric which appeals by vaguely referring to some sort of challenge to the 'establishment'.

Actually means nothing.

David Nucifora.

Didn't Nucifora somewhat similarly get moved around various jobs with the ARU including coaching the under 20s, being an assistant to the Wallabies for a little while and running the HPU?

Is Jones just unaware or does he apply different standards to mates?

What is Jones' suggested budget to implement these academies compared with the current situation?

How exactly does he think having a kid contracted when they leave school (and hopefully you pick the right one that eventually becomes a superstar) saves you lots of money down the track? If they become that superstar Wallaby you still end up paying them a huge contract.

Folau and Hunt are the only two reasonably recent NRL recruits and Folau was 5 years ago. Hunt was 3 years ago. Clearly Hunt hasn't worked out for reasons entirely of his own doing but Folau has been comfortably in our top few players over that period (if not our best).

It's just more hot air with absolutely no substance.

Did Foley just have a mare (kicks or touch not going out, kicks at goal being unsuccessful, etc.), or is there something more sinister?
