Are you going to sit there and type that DC would have made no difference to the winning margin of the Sydney game?

Are you going to sit there and type that having half our first choice forward pack out made no difference to the wallaby performance in the 3N?

Nope, but I am pointing out that Robbie's got you fooled if you think the Wobbs were really that much closer.

Hore, Ali Williams, DC, Sivivatu, Toeava > your list.

I think the difference is that the ABs have to depth to manage being without some of their top players.

Australia simply doesn't.

While we appreciate you lose Hore, Ali Williams, DC, Sivivatu & Toeava. You bring in a range of quality replacements.

Aus loses Robinson, Alexander and Palu and ends up with Daly, Ma'afu and Brown ............................

Better to compare Aus rugby to a good Kiwi Test Cricket side. Neither could afford too many of the first string wounded orthey go to pieces.

Whereas say the Aus Cricket side and the ABs just roll out another quality unit

Difficult to find replacements for Heinrich Brussouw , FdP and Bakkies.

Fatprop's point is good. We lost people where we didn't have a lot of depth - had we lost Giteau we could have slotted Barnes in and certainly done no worse, had we lost Pocock then Hodgeson would have been good (maybe not quite as good but based on his Force performances pretty close), we covered Ioane's and Mitchells time out pretty well. We lost Cooper for two key games where we couldn't afford to. The Blackness were very thin at 10 and Carter's loss in Sydney really showed - but he only missed one game.

There's never just one factor though. Selection and bench use contributed too. Baxter would have done better than Maafu despite what the Baxter haters say. McCalman showed his class when he finally got the opportunity, as did Turner.

My four key factors, in order of importance, were:
1. Poor physical preparation and insufficient bench use meant we could not control the game in the second half.
2. All Black's ability to work the referee and the referees inability to resist.
3. Loss of people in key positions where we had thin back-up.
4. Poor selections.

Have you been missing lots of these guys for 10 games in a row?

Yes. Horwill, Palu, TPN, Alexander. I don't use it as an excuse though. The credit to NZ is that with the exception of DC, I would not back any of those you mention to unseat their replacments given the form they have shown. As for Deans, it was all dandy when he was at the Crusaders so I pay no attention to it.

Well, this thread was always going to turn into a shitfight as soon as a Kiwi turned up, and fair enough.

I personally don't want to make any excuses for losing. Enzed by far the best side this year.

But I do believe, Scorz, that it was the ABs plan to infringe in their own 22, and I was very disappointed in the refs that more yellows didn't come out of it.

Hey someone had to do it as you mention!

I reckon the AB coaches are trying to get the lads to adjust to the ref for every game and make sure as much as possible 2007 isn't repeated, but you say potato...

@#1 Tah: Forum being a key word there! I haven't been insulting, and I've stayed on topic so the least you could do is leave that out?

@Ruggo: It's fair to doubt the comeback ability of those guys after this long then - at least as much as it's fair to say Ali Williams may never come back. BTW Andrew Hore has every chance of unsettling Mealamu too, and personally I think Sivivatu will piss in past Rok, Ranger, or any other winger.

To those still pushing the lack of depth and but we had injuries excuses, I would refer you to Ewen 'Link' Mackenzie speaking on Ruggamatrix Episode 091.

The lack of depth is a myth and injuries happen and just have to be dealt with they are both very lame excuses.
