"It is with great sadness that the College community announces that Joe Welch (OR2009), son of Grabrielle Trainor and Peter Welch and brother to current students Jack and Thomas, died tragically on Saturday, 5 February 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand following an incident while swimming.

Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced when available.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen."

A very sad loss - a young life lost far too early. A very talented rugby player who i'm sure would have gone on to play at the highest level.

We will miss you mate! RIP

Terrible news, still with so much to add. Condolences to family and friends.

From a different era, but still terrible, was the loss of John Hancock late last year. Hank was prop for the all victorious 1977 schoolboys (Ella's, Hawker, O'Connor, Lewis etc), and like Joe he was an old boy of Iggies. His funeral was well attended by the 77 team and coaching and management staff - rugby lays down bonds that last for life and beyond. RIP both.
