Anyone from any Rural/Regional areas can add posts to this for there areas or indeed anyone from Newcastle who thinks I've missed a really good place.

I'll cover Newcastle. In case anyone is up here, down here, or lives here.

Big post but these are all the Newcastle pubs I reckon are worth a look. I've listed mainly pubs I've been to, only a couple I haven’t been to have been mentioned cause I'm going to go check them out.

I don’t have a google account so I cant add it to the map but I’ve cut & pasted the links here.

Commonwealth Hotel, Union Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, Australia (as the address appears in google maps) - THIS IS MY NO.1 PICK

Website:

Summary:
They say it’s the people’s pub, quite true. I would describe it as a pub with a bit for everyone, lone person, group of mates, family, etc & it supports local rugby (they sponsor my whole rugby club Uni & the Slime), very pro-rugby pub, my club visits here usually after games.

Viewing:
They have Fox. During the Super Rugby season they had the Super Rugby on a large screen projector with sound on, NRL/AFL/Soccer/Shite all relegated to smaller screens. I have emailed them to ask whether they will be doing the same for the RWC (I'm sure they will but I like to be sure). You can eat pretty much anywhere in there I believe but the main eating area occupies the same place as the big screen which is handy.

Drinks:
The major brands plus a few additionals. I've seen pubs with bigger ranges but for those of us like myself who aren't real picky then you’re covered.

Food:
You can see the menu online to make up your own mind. Local hunter produce used, reasonably priced, personally love the food here. One piece of advice is to use the phone number on the website to make bookings or booking enquiries as it gets packed & sometimes they have functions. I wouldn’t recommend using their online booking service because I did that once, arrived, & then was told there was a function on so missed out, & I was bloody looking forward to my steak too! It is also located close (4 blocks) to Darby st, for any "foodies/coffee drinkers" it’s a great st for that.

Atmosphere/Extras:
Very comfy, I've walked in there on my own feeling quite at home. They have a fireplace for when it’s cold (probably wont see much of it the way the weather is warming up). Bar staff friendly. TAB.

Other Pubs/Clubs of mention are:

The Beauford Hotel Mayfield, in addition to the commo the Beauford throws in some extra sponsorship for my women’s Uni team, it doesn’t have a big screen projector like the commo but it has Fox, volume, should have the Rugby on a dedicated TV. Its an old school pub, the kind I like, has really good cooking - the same lady has run the food at that joint for ages, this is where my team has its weekly steak night after training. TAB, friendly staff. Google map below.

Harrigans Irish Pub (Pokolbin, for those out west who'd like to go more country)

http://www.harrigansirishpub.com.au/

They advertise that all games will be shown 'live & loud', some drink & meal deals also.

Honeysuckle Hotel, new place, right on the water, unsure of what RWC games they are playing but the bledislow was put on at this place & it was packed when I walked past. I’ll be going there to see how it is.

I don’t know if its cause it’s a new place but google maps chucks a shit when I try to look for it on the map so below is just a map of Honeysuckle area, walk along it, stay next to the water & you’d come across it (its in the other direction of the Brewery).

The Mattara Hotel

All games on several big screens, very good meals.

Hotel Delany

All games on all 14 of their 55inch plasmas. Something about a “Heineken coach” for every Wallaby match – front row seats, a feed & beers.

These following pubs are good but most don’t have huge projectors & I'm unsure of what RWC games they'll have on. I have listed them because they are good pubs, if people google them they can ph & check them out if they really want to:

Northern Star/Finn McCools Irish Pub, Hamilton
The Gladstone Hotel, Stockton (the 'happy rock', described as 'a dive' by some described by others as a 'real pub')
The General Washington Hotel, Stockton (the 'washtub', really good new restaurant)
The Boat rowers, Stockton
Stockton RSL (not a pub but still good, big screen probably will show the league finals though)
Stockton Bowling Club (as above)

Naturally there would be people from Newie that would tell me I've missed a good pub, & I'm sure I have but these are the ones that come to my mind.

All this typing about pubs makes me want a beer now :)

Phew, that was thirsty work, eh, SH?

Going to be in Bowral area for much of the RWC, the Bowral Hotel has fox, as does Hotel Imperial, but not sure if they would show the rugby whilst the NRL semis are on...

Have been to the Moss Vale Hotel too and has Fox too.
