Interesting. So Elsom isn't a proper 6?

He was, and can be again, if he gets on two legs again for a period of time and gets working in tight.

He did OK for a while last season but too often was the old pro taking the short cuts as he managed his injuries

Also think that what you call a "proper" anything depends on what game plan you are playing and who you have around you. How many out there would call QC (Quade Cooper) a 'proper' 10?

I am afraid I would have to stick with a fit & in form Rocky over Dennis any day though. The 'fit' bit is the problem.

A quote from a Force fan who watched last night's game.
The Reds Just looked the much more professional well drilled team with a team which will prob be the same that took the field last night and I think they will be a team to reckon with again this year.

Be worried 'tahs fans, very worried

Proper? yeah well interpretation, sure

What I think a 6's role is, one the ball, mistake free, doing all the 1%s

I reckon David Dennis is the best "proper" 6 in the country, he may not chip kick for tries but he is very very effective, solid lineout option, gets over the gain line, has a high work rate and a low error rate.

I love this. Get 30cm over the gainline and you're an excellent forward. Get over the gain line constantly and often by about 20m and you're rubbish. Higgers is a pretty good lineout option too.

Higgers is great at running the ball, however his defensive workrate leaves a lot to be desired.

Please let me know where I mentioned Higgers?

edit, apologies I did mention chip kicks in an earlier post. So let me elaborate. To me, each position has core skills that are part of the balance of a side.

The classic 6 is more like Richard Hill. Very, very effective and doing the unnoticed hard yards that allows an explosive 8 and the fetcher 7 the opportunity to do the special stuff.

If that 6 isn't doing it, another backrower or tight forward has to pick up the slack. For the Reds, Daley, Slipper & Faaingas' workrate is the cover that allows Higgers to float and get those 20m runs.

Well that settles it, the greatest Australian rugby franchise of all time will have to prop up Australian rugby for a second year running.

I'm expecting a hard hard game against the Waratahs with Foley now head coach. I think he is the 2nd best coach in Australia at the moment, next to Mckenzie.

You can have your loose forwards play as tight as you like. Our tight forwards will do that in qld and we will let our loose do what they're supposed to.

I'm a Tahs fan but if it's going to be any team it'd be the Brumbies... One swallow doesn't make a spring.
