Maybe not the optimal thread for it but shit does Gibson rightly get to the heart of the matter here (and all this applies to the Reds just as much as to the 'Tahs).

Namely: the Australian RUs and ARU were wholly seduced by the easy option - pump more and more quantity of 'rugby product' out to the taken-for-granted rugby public - but don't do the hard work, or make the hard investments, to build new systems and role specialists to upgrade player developmental pathways and thus build far deeper rugby _quality_ through, critically, upgraded rugby coaching, player core skills enhancement and training systems.

Topo, great to have you back here, remember you so well from 2010 onwards.
But where oh where are the lost greats of that GAGR era....like Scarfman and nasa and nusadan?
Nusadan is still floating around here
Scarfman retired from the forum

We need a 'whatever happened to' thread. There are a few posters I wonder where they are.

Great point by Gibson, how do you replace Mumm and Skelton in one year. Mccauley is still a youngster, Toleafoa isn't offereing a great deal and Mcduling is a capable journeyman, that's it. They will have to fight hard to bring back a couple wandering NSWelshman, whilst lock stocks are already a bit low, in particular with one franchise (rebels).

They managed to bring back Toolis from europe, but also had to bring in rettalick (nz) and day (wales). Not much hope is getting something useful there if they fold (Jeffries and Cummins are OK), except maybe L.Timani, but not really what they will desperately need.

Few players overseas, couple Brisbane schoolboys Payne left Brisbane for Wales, there was a unit called stohlberg, after some ITM cup, now playing in japan, then guys like Jones, Pyle and Timani.

C.Neville should be available after he has fallen to the no.5 lock in QLD, and maybe even L.Tui could look to head back home to NSW, with Simmons and Rodda locked in QLD'rs and Douglas family based there. A Neville/Phillips/Tui combo would service them nicely.

Force have RHP, Coleman, Phillips, Arnold (all doing great things) + journeyman Matwijow. The best thing for the Tahs would be for the Force to fold! They are hogging some great 2ndrowers!

Bruce Ross?

Now you're talking - what a gem of a poster was he!

My happiest ever time here was the co-invention and later propagation with Bruce of the infamous Totality Tony thread following the ARU's hyped-up media release re TT's 2012 arrival back to the Australian rugby coaching scene.

Bruce had us in stitches, and the TT-related jokes from many posters just got better and better as the thread gained volume.

I am just guessing, but I suspect Bruce got a bit tired of the anti-Sydney University element, of which I am a proud leader. Although I am very sad that he has gone.

Ironically most of those guys are players NSW showed little interest in. They opted for Skelton over Coleman (bad decision) and Sam Lousi over Matt Phillip (bad decision).

RHP is realistically a 6 or 8 and thats where he wants to be. Richie Arnold a fairly big (pardon the pun) gamble.

I can't quite make sense of the NSW recruitment strategy. If I were the Tahs, I'd be driving hard to recruit James Horwill and bring back Lukhan Tui.

Reckon the Reds are doing as much if not more hogging ;).

EDIT: Didn't realise Horwill extended his stay in the UK.

Hey RH - do you have the link to the thread?

No4918 talks about a trophy to play for this week in the first post. I'd like to submit that we get a used napkin from the floor of the grandstand and write the letters above. Reckon that is still too much effort?

Seriously though, I cannot see us beating the Tah's, they are our natural superiors and we as ever, the very humble under dog.

Just on Bruce Ross, I found him on twitter, his work is absolutely brilliant. Piss myself laughing everyday.

Most important game on the rugby calendar.

Time to venture to "Lang Park" to support the RED ARMY defeating the "born to rule" bluebloods, who would have course, each travelled by individual Limos to the airport, have Porters carry their nags and they themselves were probably carried in "litters" from the Limo rank onto the plane.

A quick trip, first class of course, with a few champagnes and freshly caught lobster tails and they will land in God's country

Hopefully the "chosen ones" are supremely confident yet end up playing like last week.

Yep might sneak into this game myself Scrubber. I must admit to almost being a neutral..........na I want the Reds to smash those bastards in Blue really , so maybe worth a trip into the game!

Pretty sure Jack Payne is back in Aus. Maybe playing for Easts in Sydney?
