Yes, just pointing out an infraction that preceded Quirks and was pretty cynical.

So I wonder - if one of the reds had punched Tomane because he was killing the ball - would they have have received a yellow card or would it have been ok because of what Tomane was doing?

As far as I can tell it looks like the green light has been given to swing away at anyone annoying you.

This sets such a shitty precedent

Except this isn't the precedent. Apart from Jean Cook, the other big one was Burger getting off for punching when being held and then penalty going against the holder. I welcome the decision, stop fucking holding onto players and you won't get punched.

FFS, it's not as if he threw a punch as soon as he was held. He did the standard thing which was to hit away Quirk's arm which you see all the time. Quirk insisted on holding him after that and he deserves everything he got after for it.

I imagine he would have and would also have lost the penalty advantage.

I think that Moore was extremely lucky as I've said previously. I don't follow Walsh's logic about either both or neither go to the bin. I would have thought that holding a player not in possess deserves a penalty and that a player responding with a punch should be carded and the penalty reversed. Retaliation has always been a penalty - last night was the first time I've heard a referee see the retaliation and not take action.

How many times have we seen a penalty reversed because a player on the non-offending team has retaliated or taken the law into his own hands?

Moore was lucky to not get carded, but if he had, he would be fair to feel he copped a harsh card

The fact that you can even argue this point with such gusto, removes any small amount of credibility you had as an objective poster. Truly.

Prob could get rid of the refs altogether. Remove all subjectivity from the contest. If some one annoys you, punch them, not rolling away, face stomp; tip tackle? Maybe we could just shoot them?

Seriously though, using the brainless logic of a few on here, Quirk would've been well within his rights to punch Moore back. Moore broke the rules after all so it's perfectly understandable that he be punched. See where this is going or do I have to spell it out?

So if the 7 is in gold & the 2 in black is it still OK? Just asking, may become an issue later this year or maybe next, trying to establish your baseline for this. For what it's worth, I thought Quirk YC Moore RC penalty Reds was the correct call, given that it happened under penalty advantage to Reds; Quirk's was a YC offence in terms of obstructing a potential defender in a try-scoring position; and you haven't been able to simply snot someone since the days of Cowboy, regardless of what they've done/ are doing to you.

Wow this isn't a Reds thing at all, I call it how I see it. I guarantee I would've had the same opinion had the Waratahs done what Quirk did.
