Daley is badly out of form I am afraid, at his best he is such a good clearer of rucks and consistently gets the ball marginally over the gain line from one pass wide of the ruck. We need to revolve the props anyway, Greg is the heart and soul of Reds Rugby - Great Man. Gill will start this week for sure I reckon, although Beau should still be considered our #1 (7) for now, especially against the big SA teams.

With Holmes, A.Fainga'a, Samo and Higginbotham with niggles, would it be an idea to rest them, or have them only as bench options? I mean no disrespect to the Rebels, but we have the talent waiting to come into the side and still perform well. My ideal side for this week is.

1- Daley
2- Hanson
3- Slipper
4- Simmons
5- Horwill
6- Quirk
7- Gill
8- Shatz
9- Genia
10- Lucas
11- Ioane
12- Harris
13- Tapuai
14- Shipperely
15- Morahan

Bench: S.Fainga'a, Anae/Shepherdson, Humphries (just incase), Samo, Robinson, Lance/Fainga'a, Davies

I have been a big supporter of having Daley dropped, but if Holmes is not fit there is no point risking him when there is a big South African tour a week away. And once again, non-disrespect to the Rebels, their front row does not have the same strength as other franchises.

I think Quirk should start if Higginbotham is not worth risking. If they do want Higgers to start I would swap Quirk for Samo on the bench (with Samo's niggle).

I want Lucas to start to take some distribution pressure of Harris, along with the great defensive work he does. It also allows for Fainga'a to be eased back in from the bench.

Morahan deserves another shot in my opinion, he can be a great attacking weapon when he is given good ball. And we do need an attacking fullback to give us more line breaking options out wide. Davies would be another option at 15 but he has not proven himself to be strong under the high ball.

I thought Albert Anae had a strong debut last week in trying conditions. Lineout throwing at times astray, but Horwill and Simmons particularly are not renowned lineout jumpers like the several NSW locks (note Robbie Deans). Anae scrummaged well and has a naturally large and athletic physique. Good around the park with some nice tackles. Far superior to Tahs 3rd hooker, John Ulugia, who must have comprimising photo's of MIchael Foley and a goat.

Daley is good enough in the scrims. But where he shines is in defence. He has a tackle completion rate in the mid 90% range and is alway near the top of the numbers.

Anything less than a 30-point win by the Reds should be considered a choke.

You've got an interesting supporting technique.

Predict that your side gets absolutely flogged and then claim a Pyrrhic victory when they get beaten by a lesser margin.

Hope at least it is a pretty goat Foles has chosen.

I'd like to see a few changes to the Reds side, obviously some through injury returns.

Higginbotham for Samo (if fit)
Fainga'a for Lance (if fit)
Hanson for Anae
Holmes for Daley
Gill for Robinson

If Fainga'a isnt fit, I'd like to see Lucas start. He had looked good when he's come on, so playing him at 10 and moving Harris to 12 might be an option.

The other two changes are in relation to form as I think Daley has been poor and Gill has been playing well off the bench and should start ahead of Robinson.

Would disagree with the Gill / Beau swap. But it is difficult when you have two players for the same position playing so well.

Rebels easily. 5 points in the bag against a rabble of an opposition.

:p
Egregoiusly offensive.

Wholesale changes at the Rebels this week combined with returns from injury will result in an inspired and determined new look Rebels outfit registering the upset of the season.

Harris' boot can only get worse and Radike can only get slower. Both facts that will benefit the mighty Rebels, particularily as Phipps and Cipriani can only improve. The resultant counter-balancing of the two squads will force the Rebels above and beyond the grasp of the Reds.

we will need a dramatic improvement from our halves pairing, should that happen, I am confident that our pack and the rest of our backs are up to scratch to put in a solid effort and make a game of it.

And the rebel army need to remember to bring their medication....;)

Don't think Beau is playing to the intensity he did last year - happy to give Gill a run-on shot. bugger all to lose, if he is not up to it bring Beau back into run-on side. Reckon the kid will make the most of his chance and end up owning Reds No. 7 - great to see real competition between 2 talented players (for that most important position).

I am predicting that this week will give us an indication as to what rotation policy Link is going to use for the season. Also what influence Deans is going to have on resting players who have the niggles.

Does anyone else remember Gill's run on debut against the Chiefs last year?

I have no doubt he will perform and own that jersey.

At the risk of this becoming a Reds love-in, friendly reminder that this is still a local derby so a minimum amount of inter-team banter is required.
