Rest of the Law re scrum halfs at the scrum

When a team has won the ball in a scrum, the scrum half of the opposing team is offside if
that scrum half steps in front of the ball with either foot while the ball is still in the scrum.
Sanction: Penalty kick
(d) The scrum half whose team does not win possession of the ball must not move to the
opposite side of the scrum and overstep the offside line. For that scrum half that runs
through the hindmost foot of that player’s team in the scrum.
Sanction: Penalty kick
(e) The scrum half whose team does not win possession of the ball must not move away from the scrum and then remain in front of the offside line. For that scrum half that runs through the hindmost foot of that player’s team in the scrum.
Sanction: Penalty kick
(f) Any player may be scrum half, but a team can have only one scrum half at each scrum.

Holmes has a habit of driving out, around, up and through, could have got him for a couple of infringements under the current interpretation set up. Holmes is also quite hard to pack on, small shoulders, small target, I would be wanting to get in very tight on the hooker as a TH and close my right side very quickly, and work subtly in off my right leg through my left shoulder, try and be just as narrow for Holmes and give myself a bigger target at the hooker.

The Reds were never going to go out and start playing great, exciting, fast and dominate rugby in 2012...
* Every team is going to play them as a grandfinal. They will probably be the most closely scrutinised team this year therefore it will be tougher.
* Digby, Davies are just two players who played well, and scored well, off Quade. Genia will be missing him too. Quade gave space and was unpredictable in his options.
* Link understands that this is a long tournament with Wallaaby players in his team that will be used in the middle of the season, so he is managing his players early.
* Will Liam Gill get to the U20's comp this year or will he get 4 run ons or 8 appearances of the bench??????
Not pretty but a win is a win..
Go the Reds

Penguin, I think I saying Force and Rebels are pretty weak, and so if they can't bank points against them I would be surprised, in saying that the way the Tahs went against Landers last night ,thought that was almost best diplay from Aus team so far.

Agree Dan that the Force are pretty weak but the Rebels have a very good side on paper & just need time to gel, their defense was very impressive last night. I think they'll surprise a few teams this year.
The Kiwi conference is possibly the only one where every local game could go either way. Saffas still have 2 weakish sides in the Cheetahs & the Lions and Stormers & Bulls in particular should be banking on bonus points in those match ups.

Yep Penguin, you probabaly right,I perhaps am being a bit harsh on Rebels, I haven't given them a lot of credit so far, and perhaps they may come on a bit this year, I actually hope so anyway for their fans, and the fact it will streghten following in Melbourne.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the performance of Luke Jones. I thought he really put a shift in and kept going right to end. Saffy certainly made a visible difference when he came on as well.

Luke Jones' performances this year have been fantastic thus far. Has really earned his starting spot.

Saffy did seem to add some starch. Still prefer him to Chamberlain, despite the love on that the commentators had for the latter.

Really fantastic turn around in the Rebels defensive capabilities, they should take heart from this match going forward.
I don't think Harris is best used at ten, he seems unsure of which option to take at times & looks in two minds in executing. Lucas sparked the backline when he came on & Van showed his worth is immense (love the beard!) Robinson & Gill in tandem worked a treat. Gill had a blinder I thought.
Geez I wish they'd drop the fake "we are red" chant ad nauseam, it's most off putting and gets no one following.

I was there too, and the spruker combined with the tinny "we are Reds"" was American ''Razz-a- ma-tazz'' from the 50's & 60's. It was totally ignored by the crowd, and I think a lot of fans were even embarrased by it.
Where's the drummer from last year?

And is it just me or do the forwards look like they need a LOT more fitness? They were lagging behind breakdowns, ambling around with hands on hips. I was wondering if they weren't using the backline more because the forwards weren't keeping up.

At the game, I saw across the field where a scrum had been won by the Rebels. On the other side from where I was siting (first half, with Reds to their backs to me at about half-way line), one of our loose forwards &/or Ginea had moved up quickly to trap the ball carrier & cause an ensueing maul with the Rebels under pressure.
I'm ashamed to say our three front row forwards stood there as spectators, side by side.
At that moment I thought if I was Links and had that as video, I'd be using it to examplify lack of enthusiasm at the first training meeting.
The players commitment at least picked up in the second half.

They must have a new entertainment company doing the in stadium stuff. Total shit. That ex-big-brother-bloke-who-does-radio-now has nothing on the guys that usually do the ground announcing. Music in the breaks is not as good as it was. BRING BACK THE DRUMMERS. The atmosphere is nothing on what it was last year nor the year before. I'd go so far as to say that in 2008 it was better and we won like 3 games that year.

wouldn't mind seeing a "dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' type of entertainment - not with 6 ladies but like, 20 - now that would be awesome

And what about the female rugby watching species? Just get the players to take their jerseys off at full time and we would all stay until the end. Don't need a bunch of half dressed fluzzies jumping around to entertain us. OH, and I do like the juniors at half time, so we can't get rid of them.

We had that a couple years ago and the QRU coped major criticism.

I would think they'd be able to get away with the jersey outfit more than the bikini get up!

Cheerleaders can be done tastefully and be a combination of male and females!

Agreed, and agreed. Although I think they will need to lose the boots.

I just prefer the players. Have a bit of a thing for scruffy, well built, sweaty players. (Used to say forwards but AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) has moved into the list of late.)

Was Mike Goldman doing stuff at the ground in Brisbane for the Reds?

They should use Mike - his old man is the ground announcer at one of the NRL teams home grounds, and has been for 30 years or something. Its in the blood. :)

do you mean 'shims", trannies, and she-males

love the kids at half time - good for rugby etc etc but a classy and what is wrong with 'sexy' bunch of young ladies being the 'entertainment' prior to the game ( after warm-up and prior to commencement of game). Realise the Cheerleaders seems to be a Confederate thing but so what - sometimes, just sometimes the good old USA has something worth replicating.
