Nice to see the Reds play with a 10 for a change and win, but there is a long way to go, it was a defence optional second half

Yeah and the better part - both 10's who took the paddock were from the local clubs. PS - Up the Marlins

Sooner or later the Red Mob have to put in a performance that they and their fans would be proud of, regardless of how useless they/we think the coach and/or game plan is. There is always a rainbow after a storm, and how long can this patch of bad weather stay around for?

Rebels are known for putting in the odd laxative performances and if ever there was a time that they may have their guard down, this match could be the one.

What the Force did do, has done, and continues to do to the Waratahs could happen to the Rebels tonight if they relax and don't get some early points on.

I reckon it will either be the Rebels by a country mile, or the Reds to sneak home by <7.

I'll confirm my prediction closer to the full time whistle.

Look at me, all soothsayer like.

My confirmed prediction was actually a comfortable Reds victory.:)

Can't wait for Tom English's analysis of the Rebels performance in that game.

The debate now starts: Who's fault was that?
Reds Injury/selection crisis over
Players taking charge of their own destiny despite the influence of the Coach
The Knuckles effect
RG is actually an adequate coach when he has Cattle
Rebels were laxative
Combination of the above

The race for the Wooden Spoon just got interesting and the pressure is on the Force to return service.

@Dave Beat - Nominee for the 2015 G&GR Awards in the category of "Greatest number of Threads with a plug for the Mighty Manly Marlins (MMM)". :)
Bom.gov.au says 60% chance of coastal rain in the afternoon today in Sydney. Could make conditions a little slippery on the Village Green cricket pitch for the big showdown today. #WoodiesVsMarlins

I was soft and did not go :( Was all dressed in my Reds finery when sick wifey got home feeling very sorry for herself. A poor excuse I know but super spicy curries from our local were required. STAT. Anyway, I couldn't give away my spare tickets and was going to go by myself.

I was over the moon to see the boys play like that again. Just quietly, I have a feeling the half time sermon may have not been delivered by Woody because we have not seen that team that played the second half in 2 years.

I will harden the fuck up and not give into the seduction of curries and be at the Shorks.

I was at Suncorp last night. It was the first time I have seen the Rebels play outside Victoria. How good was Super Sefa's first try? Rebels had lots of opportunities in first twenty, butchered a couple of tries, could have been 21 - 0 or similar up.

I thought we knocked on before Sefa's second try. The thing that amazed me is the ref awarded that try straight away and didn't refer it. Then they showed it ten times on screen before Harris' conversion attempt. Thought it would be overturned.

Very disappointed with start of second half. Rebels couldn't get our hands on the ball. Credit to Reds who played well during that period.

Tom Sexton showed why Pat has been playing majority of matches. His throwing last night was poor.

Definitely missed Tamati after half time. Surely Telusa must be close to leapfrogging Tom in match day 23.

Congrats Reds far too good last night.

Ain't rugby just the best game? Ever. As a disinterested observer that was wonderful entertainment. A few thoughts:
  • RG simply has to go. This week. Carmichael, take note of what just ONE WEEK of Knuckles' tutelage can produce after the coupla years of dross from RG. Others can rabbit on it's impossible to turn around a team after just a few training sessions, but I'd counter the proof of the pudding's in the eating. In fact I'd opine Knuckles took control of the half-time rev up and gave the boys firm instructions how the second half was to be played.
  • RG's shit selections emanating from his even shittier squad construction have resulted in far too many Reds playing out of position this year. I wake up every day fully expecting Genia to be announced as the next Queensland Police Commissioner, Turner as the mayor of Mt Isa and KHunt sitting on the Supreme Court bench next to Tim Carmody. OK, I jest. Richard, come close, no, closer than that, PICK A FIVE-EIGHT, ANY FIVE-EIGHT, TO WEAR THE 10 JUMPER! More grounds for dismissal in my book.
  • That was a savage reality check for the Rebels. Looking at those two team lists there's obviously far more talent and experience in red compared to blue (what, 10 Wallabies v two?), and it eventually showed last night. This young Rebels team have performed admirably this season and, to my eye, have more upside than the current Reds squad. Last night's result brutally brings out what's required to beat stronger teams. A formidable challenge, I reckon Totality and his boys are up to it. TT, you need to put some serious work into your lineouts.
  • Individual performances. McIntyre was a delight to watch on his debut, especially in the second half. Naivalu emphasised how important speed is in a winger (TGC, take note). Genia's passing off the ground was positively Greganesque in the first half, far too slow. Gill was magnificent all game. What a blessing we have in openside breakaways ATM in Oz rugby; if the first four happen to go down like Queensland 10s Jordy Reid's there to step into the breach. Debreczeni's starting to put his shoulder into the more physical part of his game; isn't his languid running and passing reminiscent of Larkham's?
  • Scrums were a joy to watch and, more importantly, gave me hope the Wallaby scrum will hold up.

I can tell you now that the players have bought into the concept Knuckles has brought into the club. According to a few journos he delivered a fierce pre game and half time speech that the boys obviously responded too. Good for them, great win.

Thoughts on the game.

Reds found their mojo again in that second half. Looked to be an attitudinal thing that Knuckles probably had them fired up in a way that RG simply can't.

JOC (James O'Connor) had his best game for the Reds and I wouldn't be unhappy to see hin in this form as the backup No 15 in place of Beale for the RWC.

Gill was clearly the MOTM and will not disappoint at the RWC if he gets to go there.

McIntyre performed better at 10 but his kicking game simply has not improved from his U20s time last year. Must have the shortest kicking game of any 10 in first class rugby.

Reds scrum was massive and bodes well for the RWC.

Rebels did not play to their own standards this year. Too many mistakes and easy turn over ball. Really missed JD while he was in the bin.

Thought bringing McMahon back to the starting side was a mistake after the outstanding games both Reid and Fainga'a had against the Blues.

Timani is out of his depth at lock. Neville looked better when he came on as he did last week also.

Sexton throws worse than Leafa to the Lineout and does little around the park.

Good signs for the Reds. Expect they will continue to show improved form for the remainder of the year with Connelly in charge.

I love it when teams have a turn around game like this. Hopefully the reb can pick themselves up again and the reds can keep it going. Great for Aus rugby :)

Well, he's been playing well for the Reds the past month, but it's not true that he's been playing better than Pocock and Hooper "week in week out"....

Really, He has been outstanding all year. The only blight being the brain fart against the Brumbies.

Gill is like Pocock in my mind in that breakdown focus and he does his best work in the tight. Of late he has started to resemble George Smith by showing that diverse skill set Smith always had and I would say Gill is letting his sevens background more into his game. Pocock since his return from injury has showed his skill set has broadened too.

Some nice rugby shown by the Reds. Don't let this save Graham though. You can put a cherry on a turd but you still have a turd.

CFS looks to be showing some of the promise some said he had. He has a powerful running game and good footwork also. He should stay on the wing but play with the freedom that Digby played with.

Horwill/Simmons, best locking combo in the country and showed again tonight. If the Wallabies have any desire to play off a strong set piece (both lineout and scrum), they may want to think very seriously about keeping this combination in tact.

Hunt not a 13 in my view. Did some good things in attack but his defensive read was terrible.

Turner, lost pace through injury but this blokes top four inches justifies his selection alone. He has a very astute read on the game and a fine skill set to match. Not every player needs to have the X factor.

Holmes, if he isn't in the first Wallaby 23, a serious injustice would have taken place. He is on fire and he doesn't lack in his general work rate either. I'm glad the Reds and Tahs have another game to play. All four props are serious Wallaby contenders and we will learn more when they go at each other.

Gill, I explained him a few posts above.

Outstanding talent that Graham has not been capable of bring together on a consistent basis. Don't let this win cover over his inability and don't see it as justification that a head coach needs a baby sitter. that situation is also a cherry on a turd designed for no other reason than to allow the CEO and Board to save face. The clean out is just as needed this week as it was last week.

One on the things I really like about rugby is how tactics are continually being countered

Rebels spread out and don't attack the breakdown
Reds pick n drive up the middle
Rebels get sucked in as they backpeddle
Reds then go wide

I don't know who planned the option, but it worked

But the fun thing is that it may not work next week
