This is a test for the memory - maybe the Smith twins in 2018?when was the last time we secured an established player from elsewhere ??

Should probably get a hooker lol
Paisami is not a QLD pathway. He did a lot of his growing up in both Samoa and NZ. Then moved to Victoria where he finished school. Nothing to do with QLD till he was cut from the Rebels for getting into a brawlthe one thing the Reds do (mostly) in recruiting is make sure the player has some connection to Qld.
Taniela had a brother that lives in Brisbane
JOC (James O'Connor) (James O'Connor), Paisami were from Qld junior pathways
Lynagh has family links
All the rest have links via schools or born and bred (I think)
The ones I don't know are Daugunu and Vunavalu other than they liked the place compared to where they were.

Fair point - 2017 signing of George Smith could be the last established player without a prior QLD connection then?I guess technically correct, but they were both QLD products and played a couple seasons at GPS before picking up contracts at various professional clubs. They were then recruited to the Reds after existing stints at other franchises.
I don’t have a problem with it, and would say it’s been a large factor in helping cultural change under Thorn. On the flip side, if it’s one of the criterion prospective recruits are judged on (not saying it is), then it wouldn’t be casting a broad enough net to catch talent.I don't understand why we would have a problem with recruitment wanting a Q connection in their targets.

Just an interesting insight into the Reds’ pathways if we have to look back to 2017 and beyond for a big name, non-QLD signing.
neither do II don't understand why we would have a problem with recruitment wanting a Q connection in their targets.
wasnt there a Kiwi flanker a few years back?Fair point - 2017 signing of George Smith could be the last established player without a prior QLD connection then?

I think he mostly played 8, but are you thinking of Leroy Houston? Re-signed in 2016, last played in 2017, but I'm going to say he had a prior QLD connection as he first signed for the Reds in 2008. I had a quick trawl through the squad lists over the past few years and I'm pretty confident in my George Smith guess.wasnt there a Kiwi flanker a few years back?
Did their senior schooling at TGS also.I guess technically correct, but they were both QLD products and played a couple seasons at GPS before picking up contracts at various professional clubs. They were then recruited to the Reds after existing stints at other franchises.
we've all forgotten about our Japanese fullback!
2016 - predates Smithwe've all forgotten about our Japanese fullback!
Are you thinking of Daniel Braid? He last played for the Reds in 2010.
