Hmm Perese isn’t doing something right if the Broncos have picked a few other debutant wingers ahead of him this year, playing well for Redcliffe but missing out on a start to 19 and 20 year olds.

I get a feeling the only reason he has not got a run is because the coach who signed him is now at another club. Although both Kotoni Staggs and young Xavier Coates are freakish players, I think Wayne would have given Perese a run.

Perese isn’t a patch on Coates or Staggs in my opinion.. getting picked behind Herbie Hanworth is more telling. A good humbling experience for him, there’s plenty of talent out there. I think his future is in rugby, but I think he will be a better player for having been exposed to the higher training standards of league.

A good yarn I’ve heard is that Louis Frisby would have dinner with his cousin pickle Frisby after training. Louis in Broncs 20s, Pickle at the Reds - Louis was exhausted, Pickle was full of beans.

Don’t want him back. sorry

Way he left. Made a mockery of his contract. Forced his way out of the reds a year early. That’s not the type of guy qld rugby needs.

Need players with their heart in our game.

I think it had more to do with his treatment by Thorn. He felt he wasn't wanted by the Head Coach, who has a history of discarding players.

And look how Perese handled his situation compared to Quade Cooper.

QC (Quade Cooper) was happy to grind it out in park footy because he loves rugby. Perese had tantrum and left.

Perese has his reasons, it wasn’t because he felt unwanted, he just wanted something else. Family and time away were a big factor for him.

After watching the Brothers v GPS game on the weekend at Ballymore, I'm even more surprised we signed Henry Speight.

The wingers for both the above teams had good games. Which is telling considering a winger is usually only as good as their backline dictates, and the GPS and Bros sides are both quite forward dominant at the moment, I would think on the end of a Super quality backline they would be even more dangerous. My point being, surely one of the 4 blokes who started on the wings are worthy of a contract, especially when you consider they are spring chickens compared to Speight.

To clarify, not having a dig at Speight, he's a serviceable player and a proven Wallaby over the years. But I think there was enough talent in the local comp without the need to bring him in.

Let's wait and see how the 'local' talent goes at NRC. We've seen there is a HUGE jump between QPR level rugby and Super Rugby. It would be highly presumptuous to believe a winger who stands out at the QPR will necessarily be as effective at a level which is two rungs above what they're accustomed to.

I get your point, but how many blokes get signed straight out of high school these days? Tongan Thor was signed based off Youtube footage playing against blokes who were clearly inferior, and now he's Wallaby. There is certainly a jump in quality the higher you go, but unless you give players a crack in a professional environment, you'll miss out on some gems.

Is the reds website now all about flogging memberships or can you get back to the premier rugby section?

Every time I try and get around the membership pages it diverts me back?

I wonder if its an issue with the hack they had last week? They don't seem to have that redsrugby.com.au website active at the moment,

^ I think it's because of the site being hacked over the weekend. Hopefully they'll sort it out soon.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Reg :)

Hey anyone still unhappy JOC (James O'Connor) joining the reds.we will happily take him and what the heck we will even let you pay half his wages!

Let’s wheel out Jordy at Eden park now & give them both barrels ;-)

I love watching the English stuff when I can and what I saw of him I was a little dubious, but christ, he is a proper footballer.

Interesting side note to yesterday’s performance - I wonder if it will negatively impact Petaia’s chances of getting a gig before the WC.

Before the game, there definitely appeared an opportunity in our back 3. Now - not so much. Will be interesting how it plays out, especially if the Wallabies put in another strong performance this weekend.
