I am sincerely delighted to be able to objectively assess something positive regarding the QRU's actions in terms of 2019's Reds coaching appointments.
And more importantly that body at long, long last taking possession of the insight and understanding essential to enabling a complete, properly qualified elite rugby coaching team from wherever its parts may originate.
Disaster commenced in April 2012 - and would continue to unfold - upon the announcement of R Graham as Reds HC to be.
That extraordinarily blind and reckless decision - fuelled as it was by unjustified QRU hubris - set in train a now 6-year-long process of deep degradation of the Reds as a competitive team and the QRU as credible body to oversight the development and selection of that team. Indeed, if the 2019 Reds do not recover competitive excellence from the horrendous failures of the 2013-2018 period that period's debacles, gross misjudgements and consistently appalling results could still prove catastrophic for the QRU.
Let's hope that good sense and sound judgement have not returned just as too little, too late for the QRU and the Reds.
2018's exceptionally low Reds home crowds and the depth of fans and ex-fans disillusionment make 2019's season the last chance at redemption.

Reckon the Reds crowds should increase slightly from last year (because let's be frank, I doubt almost any exceeded 10,000 - possibly only the Tahs match). Becoming more competent at rugby should see crowds steadily increae.
Posted earlier but 9-7 is the minimum pass mark for Thorn - fail to reach that and is job is in heavy doubt

The weird thing about the reds team is that I genuinely like all these players individually and think they would be handy members in any squad. But put all of them together on a team sheet and it doesn't look right...if that makes sense.
Maybe it's just that they lack an identity or a brand of rugby? I am keen to see how it plays out.

It could be, that with the exception of Higginbotham, that a few years ago none of these players were the Reds. So in a sense the team identity needs reestablishing.
That's not taking anything away from the players (as you suggest). Just that at the moment its not like the snug ole sweater, or those slippers pulled out at winter year in, year out.

I'm interested to see that many people are putting McDermott as the 1st choice 9. Good player, but what about Sorovi? I'm not saying that he is better, but he looked pretty useful to me. Is there something that people see particularly in McDermott over Sorovi?

The great thing about having such skilled assistants as we do currently, means that Thorn than focus on mentality, training habits and forward play.
I fear that last year he was getting too involved in match tactics because the line coaches were out of their depth.
The concerted effort to go rural is a master stroke and will help engage the community if we start winning

Tate has played more footy with Stewart than Moses has. I'd give McDermott first dibs on the No. 9 jersey to see how their combination is able to adapt at the Sup' level. Moses had some good games towards the end of last season, but consistency seemed to be his undoing?

Think Tate’s ball running instincts make him a bit more of a threat and that might take a little more pressure off Hamish at 10 as the primary playmaker. As mentioned above also has a more established combination with Hamish . I like that his ball running keeps the close channel defenders interested in him as a threat. The more defence he engages, the more room for others .
Quade was a better 10 with Genia as a threat inside him , not to mention Digby lurking off a shoulder.
Obviously Tuttle injured , but like the balance of the 9s on the roster.

Yep.
I'd add that I still give Sorovi a good chance to upseat McDermott to the starting spot. Also what experience does AS-Y have at lock? None? Need to re-think the reserve forwards a touch.
