Reds 2019

Brumby Runner

Or … he's on a loan arrangement.

I know this sort of thing doesn't really happen in Australia but perhaps the time could be nigh.

In the case of Slipper and/or Daley, that would probably have to be mutually agreed by all parties involved. This is not quite Euro soccer.

But clearly the Reds are a little tight for reddies, so the Rebels pay Slipper's wedge. By convention, as a loan player for the season, he doesn't play against his original club.

Also, a season is a long time in rugby. There might be changes at the Reds in terms of policy, personnel or both in that time. Then, who knows? After a year away, the loan term might end.

Brumbies lent Nathan Charles to the Force some years ago when they had untimely injury problems at hooker. I don't remember any agreement that he could/would not play against the Brumbies when they met. Charles never returned to the Brumbies as he subsequently signed a contract with the Force.

I have it in mind that they might have lent another player to the Force at some stage, but can't recall any of the details.

Actually it seems Slips wants to play rugby in Australia obviously in a bid to make his third RWC.
Since Thorn could not be trusted to play him he has to move to be eligible.
Bloke loves the Reds after spending his adult life at the joint and methinks he wouldn't want to take their dosh by not playing like QC (Quade Cooper) and OH.
He is valuable to RA and should be congratulated for that reason particularly after battling the potential black dog (not the positive tests)
Dales won't start at the Reds same as at the Force and the Rebels. Reds should invest in a young bloke who has some potential not Ben Daley

The RA part sure, but the Reds component isn't fixed. For him to go to the Rebels, the Reds need to release him from their contract. If Slipper is keen to play rugby, the Reds are keen to get him off their books and the Rebels are keen to sign him then it could easily be Slipper taking the hit by agreeing for the Reds to release him from his existing contract.

I thought the total amount was fixed including franchise component, but you are right, he absolutely could agree to a cut if he thinks it's the best way for him to play (if that's what he wants) and may have done just that.

Bet we end up with Drahm.

I googled Drahm and see he is working out at UQ. Might be missing something but could not find anything about where he has been coaching? Know anything about him? I remember him being a handy 10, debuted young. I know about McKay and Mooney.

A skilful little player for sure.

He’s been coaching mainly schoolboys.

I have no idea if Drahm is any good or not but I'd prefer someone with experience at a higher level.

THORN IS inexperienced.
He needs help in in and off field management.
He needs some public speaking lessons.
A female friend said she is embarrassed to hear him talk.
Maybe Miller can assist him over his preferred 10 year plan.
BT and RG have so similar winning records but at least Richard could throw some simple words together.

This does not present him self well, but it's nothing like that smirk and guilty half guffawing following a(nother) team f-up.

BUT let's not forget some of the strengths he has brung. The scrum, in the right games steely determination and some spine. There is plenty to dislike (his implementation of "culture" is my major gripe) but it is not as if he brings nothing.

Despite results Thorn is step up from Graham, not sure what happened with Stiles, my problem is his process and disregard in implementation.

I still think these issues start at the QRU and a missing CEO.

Reds scrum has been a strength for a few seasons now - well before Thorn is my recollection. Stiles was very good with the scrum. We need more than just being really strong and determined.

The Reds have had a strong scrum since 2011 when we had the legendary; B Daley, A Finga and L Weekes leading the charge.
