^^^ There are many things in that post that suggest to me that the coach being discussed is ready for Super Rugby. And I can fault none of it. Possibly the most hopeful thing I've heard since Thorn's appointment was announced.

Jimmy Tucker confirming there's no magic rabbit to be pulled to fill the 15 jersey:

The first inkling of the team’s options at fullback will be revealed at the intra-squad trial at Ballymore on Reds’ Fan Day on February 2.

Hamish Stewart and Lachie Maranta may well see time there while pacy wing rookie Filipo Daugunu is a possible experiment at No.15 because he kicks the ball extremely well.

The Reds have specialist fullback options in their wider training squad with Jayden Ngamanu and Paddy James while big-kicking Nick Jooste is busting for a chance after his Brumbies contract was not renewed.

Surely the 15 has to be someone that can nullify the high ball and poses a kicking game. I am not sure if Stewart is the man for the first part of this equation. Having a fullback that isn't capable of handling the ball in the air just invites too many options for opposition teams to play with on the day. Surely Stewart must be given the 10 jersey and told he has their backing until the June break at least. Stewart at 10 will also push Kerevi out to 13 and from a Wallabies point of view, make him learn to make better defensive decisions though trial by error. Hunt potentially gone has caused more headaches than filling Coopers boots

I’ve seen too many young fly-halves thrown in too early and spat out the other end. I think it’s a massive ask to expect Stewart to run the backline in 2018. He looks good, but he has so much development in game control still to learn.

Reds have predominately played Kerevi at 13.. it’s only Wallaby level that he has really been playing 12.

I think this is going to be a different situation tho.

a) There is absolutely no expectation, they are already at rock bottom
b) i truly believe the coach is here to stay, there is no way his job will be on the line this year. They can't be that dumb to get rid of another coach, then again its the Reds
c) Probably the most important thing, there is no other options and even if there are hes the best one
d) The rest of the team is young pups as well, so he isn't going to stick out like he would amongst a bunch of veterans

The Reds only backline strength is arguably in the centres, i just don't see the point in breaking up the only component of the backs division that is of known Super Rugby quality to marginally strengthen another area. But i do get where you are coming from. :)

Unfortunately our only other options involve playing our 12 at 10 and either sitting our 10 or having him start out of position at 15. Unless QC (Quade Cooper) comes back.

Thanks Brad.

Agree, but defensively the centres were also a Reds weakness.

This is killing me!! I understand that fans stick through thick and thin, but after 11 seasons in the same seats 6 rows back from Reds bench, someone else can have them!!
I have no problems with BT coming in as coach. HO has effectively made this position unwanted by anyone other than a rookie, because they only just last longer than an EPL Manager!!
Roster management/recruitment/retention has been woefully managed and executed by someone supposedly untouchable; partly due to the fact that a Head Coach doesn’t last too long. Who needs 4 halfbacks on the roster?!?!
Value for money for season ticket holders has diminished faster than a packet of Tim Tams.
Grassroots clubs continue to scream for attention, seemingly into a vacuum.
Fan engagement is superficial at best; If I am to continue shelling out $1k for seats, I want to hear from HO and BT more often about what’s actually going on, rather than simply wishing players Happy Birthday on instagram!! I want something meaningful to hang on to. Strategy, reasoning, explanations of decisions, details of finances. These people are simply custodians, not the ruling class!
The Reds are not being transparent (IMO) with the shareholders, and at an AGM, I would be voting against their executive remuneration policy and supporting a no-confidence motion. If only they were a publicly listed entity!?!
So, is Varanta, Frisby and Quade gone?!?!? How much $ has been wasted buying coaches and players out of contracts? What’s happening with Ballymore?
I advised HO that I would not be renewing... the response was “thanks for your call” No question as to, why. Are they so arrogant, that tjey wouldn’t WANT feedback or are they suffering from a “kicked dog syndrome”?
Has HO just ruled off the next few years as “development”?!? No offence to a proposed backline and the players mentioned, but it’s not going to strike fear into a good club side, let alone another Super Rugby team, and the forward pack is only 2 injuries shy of giving the Sunwolves some confidence!!
I will simply save some $, heartache and travel time to watch from the comfort of my couch, or the bar down at the clubhouse and get closer to club rugby.
End of rant.

.

100%, amazingly this is an area the Reds/QRU used to be very good at and arguably set the standard for fan engagement across the Australian teams. But it’s declined quite a bit the past 2 years and since last year has completely disappeared...

Shit even the Australian Defence Force has videos and photos of the Reds recent training camp at Enoggera on their Facebook page, yet the Reds still have nothing.

They seem to have lost the plot, they need to provide an incentive for fans to sign up and pay money for merchandise and tickets, at the moment it’s merely drip feed of rumours and speculation.

apparently there will be no formal media opportunities until the Brisbane 10s?

Will be interesting to see if that changes on Fan Day (which will have the internal trial).

Such a huge decision given the tough market place for crowds and membership.

I wonder how the sponsors feel about it, let alone the fans?

That's four weeks away isn't it. All a bit sad really, With a Ceo that is suppose to be media savy are we discovering that the Coach hates doing press and has learned from former coach Wayne Bennett! mantra of "give em nothing"

Reckon the journos would ask some hard questions about that FW Hunt. May be better o wait for some rugby - much easier to deflect the shit questions about former shit players and talk about the rugby program.

It's probably the smartest thing the Reds have done in years (given the Hunt thing and firestorm surrounding that particular issue)

Someone on Reddit posted a where are they now for the 2012-2015 Wallaby, All Blacks and Springboks.

It's depressing to see the 'Queenslanders' that got 'away'; Morahan, Mogg, To'omua and Aussie Mike!

and a HEAP of others. Unfortunately we can't keep them all but Cordingly could do a much better job in player selection/retention

So they can’t talk about Karmichael... but there’s still a shit load other things they can talk about and issues they need to address.

Smartest thing for them to do would to actually own the situation and tell fans and prospective members what it is they would be spending their money on.

Ostrich approach is what they seem to be adopting, and you can only really do this when you have a track record of good performance over the years.

Definitely not the case of the Reds...

Not talking to the media works for the Bronco’s but not for the Reds. Brisbane is the biggest league town in the world, makes any press rugby get very valuable.

Strange that RA have an article on Reds training and the Reds have nothing.

Wow. Could someone pass on a message on my behalf to Reds HQ?

"Gentlemen, now I don't want to be too critical with the way things are, but hell, it's customary to turn the lights out AFTER everyone has left the room."
