Tuttle kicking goals well for QLD Country, making himself a more and more attractive option for starting halfback for next year..

The fuck are QRU getting this money from, Reg?

Anyway, as I've said elsewhere today: Stiles had one of the best squads on paper and it didn't show on the field. Yes assistant coach rookies etc. as others pointed out to me.

However, after the rampaging debacle that was Dicky Graham, the QRU seem to have reached for the Eject Lever earlier rather than later.

What Thorn has done with the QLD Country guys in a short period of time is impressive. Their work into contact shows a hard edge and that has to count for something.

We'll see if he can take that to Super level with what are being touted as better support coaches.
Yes what thorn done with qld country is impressive. As to whether right decision to eject stiles after one season not sure but after the graham debacle of keeping the latter in place for too long I guess they decided to be more ruthless given the doubts they had about stiles.

Be interesting to see how thorn goes and how much knowledge on ab's coaching tactics able to bring with him. But gees hope he develops into a good coach as we don't have that many at super rugby level.

Stiles also looked impressive with what he did with Brisbane City, had them on a 14 game winning streak and 90% win ratio over 2 seasons .

People can harp on about money all they want but only results will see the bottom line improve. Saving coin by holding onto the personal that have delivered the mediocrity is poor business strategy. Same shit inward thinking that created the problem frankly.

Thorn is an investment and weighed up, the risk is justifyable.

The other thing that Thorn brings is experience from outside the organisation. The exact same ingredient Link brought to the job.

It is baffling how people are so risk adverse in a time when we haven't got much else to lose, yet we know what this franchise is like at the peak of its power.

People aren't harping on about money as been the issue in sacking Stiles, for many it's just another consequence to a decision which many of us doubt the benefits of.. Given the QRU and the ARU are both on the brink of insolvency, i don't think money should be excluded from the conversation either.
Is the risk on Thorn justified? There are plenty who could argue its just another reckless decision by the QRU by promoting a young coach before he is ready. I still fail to see how Thorn is a bankable head coach right now,. I think in another couple of years he will be ready for the role, but i'm dubious that he is ready for it next year. Maybe if he had a vastly qualified and successful assistant coaching team..

Am I right in saying there still hasn't been an announcement from the QRU yet? If not what are they waiting for?
I'm pissed about the money. If they weren't sure about Stiles why not offer him one year and an option for more? What have they offered Thorn? If it is a multi-year deal they are mad. Again, offer him one year with an option for more if he works out.

How many other times in all of professional rugby, anywhere, has a rookie coach been thrown into a Tier 1 competition as head coach and done well?

Fully agree with your comments Sully. But unfortunately logic and economic foresight has been seriously lacking at Ballymore for a number of years now.

No, it hasn’t been confirmed by the QRU... but it hasn’t been denied either

Believe Stiles on hols and returns this week sometime.

Maybe official won't be made until his actual return.

Saga has been a PR debacle

Fired when on holidays. Reds staying classy.

Although one article said he's known himself for a couple weeks but staying mum for reasons that escape me.

If he got the "turn your holiday into a permanent one" as he left on a Friday arvo that be up there with some of the better ones I've seen.

Look who the bloody hell knows what is going on. Maybe they've offered him another gig in the organisation. Maybe they've said you can have your old job. There could be lots of reasons it hasn't been announced. Or it might not be true.

Far to much smoke for it not to have happened Sully. I've been surprised that there has been no reaction from him.
I for one can see no reason for it. It's costing the Reds a packet to pay all these coaches who don't work for them.
Thorn has no coaching experience of any note, McGahan hasn't been great for the Wallabies or the Rebels and I don't buy into the talk of Mooney being the turning point for the Reds either.

maybe it is a media stunt to get people to buy memberships before they find out things will actually be the same next year

No idea how they are going to afford these pay outs! They couldn't even afford the temporary alcohol licence for the Premier Grade finals - needed a local Brisbane pub to step in for them... Shambles

<chuckles> Sorry to be rude, but this post made me laugh. All the hallmarks of an engaged fan thinking : there is no way we can be that big a shambles. Can't be that bad.

Can it? Surely not.

Yes let's wait for the announcement.

I can't remember where, but I read an article two days ago which referenced quotes from Thorne. He was asked if he was going to be the new Reds coach and his response was something to the effect of "I don't even know if I want to be a career coach yet. I'm happy doing this now but I don't know if it'll be a long-term thing".

Doesn't sound very compelling.

When asked would whether he would become the Reds new coach, what he actually said was:

“So I have been doing those things, the 20s, the NRC and the head coaching of those two teams, I have really enjoyed it.

“Does that mean I’m going to be a career coach? I don’t know but we will just see how things keep going.

“I’m enjoying this and the big driver for me is just contributing.

“I feel like I am getting to do that and I would like to think some good stuff is happening.”
