Any news of George Smith returning to the scene . . . ? Just wondered if Reds got picked up by taxis :p or escorted by Samurai warriors . . . for protection?? lol

Except this time we need to ensure that Jim McKay and Matt Taylor are loitering in said carpark

Maybe we could try looking beyond the carpark.

Haven't watched the game, but am aware of the outcome. I don't know that the coach is the problem, I think Japan have been targeting that game for a while, and I'm not sure that the coach is the problem. The Reds are a ridiculously young team (and I think we need to be at the moment), that is what you get from a young team -- they don't know they are supposed to win games just like they don't know they are supposed to lose games like last week. It happens. If we are still this inconsistent at this point next season then we can probably fire the coach.

You're right - we lack such experience- George Smith, very young and green, Slipper - same, Faa'gase, Lucas, Lance, CFS, Kerevi - all of them in their first Super Rugby season aren't they? Come on, we have enough old heads in key roles that we should be able to make the right decisions. Angus Scott Young has his father who I don't think would accept the 'green' tag. The coach is in constant communication with the team vis their runners so has to accept that their instructions are either not working or not being understood.

Zero-C, stop fuckin making pretentious comments when you havent watched the game. You insult the young players who played their hearts out and are blamed for the lackluster efforts of the 'experienced'reds players who couldnt be bothered to put in. Its unfair., to jump on the bandwagon and blame youth.

You're right, forgot about him - must have been the lack of impact. Lots of experience in key positions and as others have pointed out the young players were the ones who were putting in. Couldn't believe that we could get something like 3 kicks either charged down or kicked into a player in a short period - just woeful.

They are not a ridiculously young team. They have the same average age as the Reds of 2010 who finished 5th. Just outside the finals.

They have a pretty ridiculously inexperienced coaching line up which is probably more relevant.

Youth is not an excuse. This guys have access to a professional sporting environment (supposedly) and are being paid as professionals.

There it is.

The repetitive making of superficial excuses for all manner of avoidable and unforced defects in Australian pro rugby teams - from the Wallabies down - has become like a toxic Valium that misleadingly sedates and hides away the proper expectation for team success, decent rugby skills, sustained intensity of effort, competency of coaching, excellence of fitness, and much else.

This excuse-making is a dangerous malaise partly as it seeks to legitimise mediocrity and protect unacceptably low standards that are slowly destroying the code in this country.

Daugunu is the only bloke that seems to turn up for the Reds week in and week out. His defence came under fire earlier in the season but if you look at some of the tackles he made in the Sunwolves game and the one against the Chiefs he puts some enormous shots on guys much bigger than him. Looked like he was going to make a line break every time he got his hands on the ball yesterday, a tremendous talent, if Thorn has done one thing well it's get him signed up to the Reds.

Perhaps if the Reds stopped picking kids straight out of school and allowed them to learn their craft with a bit of graft in club rugby we might get some depth. Stewart/Tupou only played colts at club, Rodda played a few at Prems. Stewart and Tupuo have been Wallabies without a full senior club rugby game. I don't think Stewart even played in the NRC. Are we that desperate? It's all just working in the gym and listening to people tell them how good they are. Then they come up against a side that's full of guys who've had to work to get where they are and they get smashed.

Aside from the 2nd last sentence which could be part of the problem; the rest is pretty inaccurate.
Not only is Stewart not a wallaby he was lighting up the NRC

Tupou played an entire season of club rugby at least before playing for Qld. He was MOM in Brothers GF win a few years ago.

I don’t think the youngsters were the problem this weekend. As others have said Lance and Lucas were very poor. Kerevi and CFS barely sited. Slipper and Douglas couldn’t make an impact either.

Stewart tried bloody hard (out of position), the young winger was enterprising, Scott-Young worked tirelessly. Rodda was again very good.
