Only if they remain contracted. The Reds will be hoping they seek opportunities elsewhere so they can be released from their current contracts.

Almost as rare as a Franchise putting a player's career on hold intentionally to reduce his opportunity to find an alternate contract.

It wouldn’t at all be unusual given the circumstances... If he is getting paid $800k-$1million/year, and he is only offered $500k/annum at a new club, it would require Quade having to forgo $300-500k/year in earnings to keep playing. That price estimate isn’t unusual given there is little value in an overseas club recruiting Quade for the current season. He would only be valued for the 2018-2019 season.

Alternatively the QRU may agree to continue paying him the difference between the value of his current contract and his new contract. Either way it’s difficult to see a scenario where the QRU aren’t just throwing money away.

Maybe he will serve as a marque for the new IRPC.

Definitely. In that sort of scenario I would imagine all parties seeking some sort of pay out arrangement.

Cooper clearly wouldn't want to lose out financially but also is unlikely to put a halt to an elite professional career.

If Cooper can secure a contract elsewhere for a team he wants to play for and the ARU and Reds can get out of a solid chunk of their financial obligations it probably represents the best outcome from a bad situation for all parties.

While we are at it, and the timing with respect to Quade is the absolute "highlight" of this, it is also utterly churlish and despicable to be treating Frisby and Vanzatti (if true) in this manner.

The business ethics around this must lie squarely at the feet of Thorn. And a gutless QRU if they have knowingly allowed it.

The term "honesty" in this situation is just about the archetype of "specious".

I’ve been told that Nick Jooste (fly half from brumbies, force and Australia 20s) has moved to Brisbane and has linked with Norths. I wonder if he will come into the fold with the reds now that Quade isn’t required or if this is why he has moved to Queensland

I am pretty disappointed, my two favorite players leaving at the same time.

The QRU is lucky that no matter what they do supporters like me will stick with them and lets face it no decision will make the crowds get worse that 2016 so I guess there is no downside.

I had similar thoughts on Brisbane City, LB. Glad someone raised it. OTOH, no the Reds don't have no room to move on the down side. Starting base is low, I grant, but they are doing a pretty bloody good job of it.

Why would he "seek a release": it is highly likely that they have breached his contract by telling him not to bother showing up any more. He certainly has the whip hand negotiating the terms on which the contract is terminated and I hope he doesn't waste it.

If by "Frisby is understandable" you are talking about his performances, maybe. If it means he has been treated satisfactorily, then no.

Total of five minutes together in Super Rugby, but they played all but two games together in this NRC season. If you're coming off making a backline as potent as that Qld Country, I guess you'd want to keep that faith.
