The 100m doesn't really have a place in measuring a rugby player's abilities. Speed at any distance over 40m is just going to be irrelevant in the vast majority of match situations a play is going to find themselves in.

JOC (James O'Connor) is the same kid who beat Billy Slater in a 40m dash without any issues - I'd be very surprised if any of the guys on the above list aside from Davies/Toua were more than a third/half a step ahead of him at that distance. Aside from that, you could throw all those guys together into one player and JOC (James O'Connor) would still be many times the better footballer.

100% - a 20m time trial with a flying start is way more rugby-relevant than 100m.

However, since 100m is still bellow that lactic threshold there's some info to be pulled from it.

yeh that's great. Not talking about whether speed is important or whether JOC (James O'Connor) is a good player. Merely responded to the comment "The only thing that might let us down is a lack of genuine pace outside of perese", by pointing out perese isn't known for his speed, nor does he have the greatest genuine pace in the squad. His strengths lie elsewhere.

Just keep it in the forwards.
Speed then taken out of the equation:)

Toua was a track star, JOC (James O'Connor) wasnt. Jocs top speed wouldnt touch naivalu, koroibete, davies, turner, morohan, but would be better then most.

The thing we saw with Davies and Toua was keeping them injury free, how many times did we see Davies tear his hammy from his acceleration? Then, a lot of guys who have raw speed alone don't know what to do if they can't find space as they don't work on their feet.

While JOC (James O'Connor) may not have the raw speed as those individuals, he has great footwork which allows him to accelerate and put a tackler off in the lead up to contact being made. In addition to this, it's not often you get to reach your top end speed in a game which is why during testing they put an emphasis on 20 metre sprint times.

I do wonder if we'll see JOC (James O'Connor) return to Australian shores in the lead up to the WC and which clubs would be willing to enter any types of negotiations with him.

Formula 1 Race Cars are pretty good but only when things are in their favour, but a Bulldozer (or a number of them) can be very useful in most circumstances.
Good analogy Hugh, however in today's style of play there seems to be too many bulldozers lining up on the track thinking they are F1 cars.

Id say there are too many bulldozers with a 4cylinder engine that struggle through hills and obstacles

Opeti Helu the Australian Schoolboy prop from Newington has been down in Brisbane talking to the red. He's big, strong and powerful and another one for the production line. Him and Eadie were two of the best starters and with Lucas winning Queensland schoolboy of the year there's 3 players we should try lock up for the future .

I imagine as a prop it'd just be for Super 20s.

Isaac Lucas may be a bit harder to sign. I've heard the Lucas family are very anti-Reds after Graham et al told Ben his services weren't required.

Perhaps the new admin might be a help.

Where else would he go.

His Dad bleeds Red and reckon he bleeds every time Matty wears dirty blue. But that's football as we know it.

At the end of the day Isaac is just another talented kid, well behind others.

Would love to have him though ! HE might be the one

Hmm it's a funny one, understandably there would be a bit of malaise, but that's professional sport.. when Ben Lucas was signed other players missed out, some felt it was due to the Lucas family having greater rugby pedigree, one of those Luke McClean went to Europe and represent Italy dozens of times.. was it the right call? Possibly... but that's the nature of the game, there's limited contract spots and everyone wants an opportunity

Pastor Maldonado?
No! Sometimes the forwards must realize that they are just wheel spinning under the heavy load and not actually going anywhere ( besides either losing the ball forward or not releasing) and it needs to get out to open space down the line. It's a 15 man game....no?
