What do the Reds need to do in 2017 and beyond to be at least competitive and consistently make the finals

1. Appoint the right Head Coach, one enthusiatic and the ability to make good rugny players into very good ones, one who has the respect of players.
2. Appoint a new CEO
3. Determine which playing positions need filling or tweaking ?
1 (Slipper), 2 (Moore), 4 (Simmo), 5 (Kane), 6 (Tui), 8 (shatz +1), 9 (Pickle), 13 (Kerevi) 14 (Nabuli) are all good and performing (Moore at the Ponies and Douglas being injured ATM)
Personally I think all the other positions should be seriously looked at (yes, even Karmichael) and those players should cop a serious "review" as to their performances year to date. Retain performing and proven players, players that have given all to the Club, instead of looking at pipe dreams. Holmes is the classic example !
4. Get rid of some deadwood players (who are not buying into the culture and living in their own).

Thoughts???

Is Nathan Sharpe a good appointment for player rep?

I say no, I have had no dealings with him and and he is probably going to be great but did he attempt to recruit players to leave with him to the Force when he left?

Super Rugby franchise Queensland Reds are believed to be chasing North Queensland young gun Kalyn Ponga.
The fullback formally rejected a contract extension from the Cowboys last week with a code swap the biggest threat the club faces in their bid to keep the exciting prospect.
Still only a teenager, Ponga’s NRL pathway is blocked by Lachlan Coote, with the club re-signing the custodian on a new two-year-deal last month.
The Courier Mail reported last week that Brisbane are keen on the teenager who comes off contract at the end of 2017 but should Ponga enter the open market, it’s hard to see him not attracting the interest of all 16 NRL clubs and Market Watch has heard that the Reds are the Cowboys’ biggest competition.

Brilliant, I don't see how the Broncos are a serious option for him if he is chasing starting time, they already have Anthony Milford who is similar mould player to him at 5/8 and Boyd at fullback.

Plenty of opportunities at the other NRL clubs though, just depends how serious he is about returning to Brisbane. If that is a factor then the Reds stand a chance, if it isn't, then I don't think rugby can match the money.

He was/is on the Bond Uni Board but I understand it was only a "profile" thing and contributed little or nothing,

Maybe (hopefully) that will change at Reds level.

.

A forward pack with Slipper, Moore, Douglas and Simmons is almost always going to be a good one. Should be strong in the set-piece having that core group of strong scrummagers and line-out operators.

Sorry about the back-line.

I was hoping the Reds would announce a new CEO and HC this year, not next year. I think we are about 60 days into when they said they would have it sorted in around 90 days? Or 90-120 days or whatever they said. They need to have this stuff sorted ASAP so everyone knows what their position will be in the future.

CEO will need to be appointed before HC, the two positions are so closely aligned that any new HC needs CEO approval IMO.

I don't like the idea of him anywhere near the Reds administration. There's a reason the Force took so many Queenslanders when they started. I'm sure many haven't forgotten the fact that while serving as Reds Captain he actively recruited Queensland players and schoolboys to join the Force. I didn't really care that he'd gone to the Force, but that he convinced so many young players, the future of Queensland Rugby at the time, to come as well, despite being a Queensland rep and Captain at that, really just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
