The upgrade to Ballymore is more about a state of the art training facilities, accommodation and medical hub rather than a place to play.
The Reds will be playing at Suncorp for the foreseeable future.
Must cost a few more shekels to hire Suncorp for a game than it would at Ballymore.
If crowd numbers continue to spiral downwards, the beancounters would start to make the case for Ballymore sound attractive.
If all goes well during the week Gill and Slipper are set to start against the Tahs. It doesn't look like Saia will be back though unless he is being rushed back in.
Tahs set piece will be in tatters this week.
We all live in hope.Funnily enough my missus prefers Ballymore as a venue. Smaller, closer to the action, still has a grassy hill, cheaper tickets, and easier to get to (with a sneaky park across the creek).
She'd rather watch NRC or preseason at Ballymore than Super Rugby at Suncorp.
I really hope Slipper and Gill are both available this week. I've had my hopes dashed by this Reds side so many times before, but after the performance the Tahs put on against the Highlanders. do I dare to dream of an upset?
I like the match ups on the weekend for the Reds. 10 is our biggest weakness so it would be great if they could get McIntyre to run straight. Gill being back will keep Hooper from having a field day.
Nabuli is looking like a good attacking option. I'd like to see CFS used more in close, like Digby used to be.
I thought Hunt had his best game on the weekend, not by doing anything outstanding but he was in control whenever he had the ball.
Reds by 8 (I'm well and truly drinking the Kool-aid)
Calm your farm man!
I love Ballymore, loved being there as a kid sneaking into the ground across the creek, playing there/ It is the spiritual home of Queensland rugby.
BUT - it is located in a terribly bad, inaccessible area. It is a fucking nightmare to get to or from for a big match.
I suppose if Suncorp remains the main stadium for rugby (Reds and Wallabies) then OK to re-develop the joint. Suncorp has wonderful access.
My pipedream would be to have a stadium (other than Suncorp), owned by the QRU, with great access that the Reds could train and play at (with accommodation towers etc etc).
It's technically state government land at the moment, right?QRU was attempting to have the land transferred from Deed of Grant in Trust (DOGIT) to freehold land which would allow them wider scope in redevelopment. I.e Increased commercialisation or possibly subdivide parcels of the site.
It's technically state government land at the moment, right?
What's the mechanism for the freehold transfer ie would the state government just sign over the land for (say) $1, or do they need to pay market rate?
Agreed, Reds need Gill back more then they need Slipper, purely due to the depth(or lack of) in their respective positions.
