yeah, I thought he did. He looked about the only option for Country to get points and I mean more than just his boot. Looked very dangerous in attack. I thought he was excellent and showed more with less, in terms of players around him.

I actually wasn't being a smart ass for once and was generally interested as I don't think I watched any Q Country games. I am happy to be wrong in my assessment of Jake starting Round 1 but will be watching the trials with interest.

I guess it's good we have options there, be they both inexperienced, than have Frisby cover again.

I don't think its a risk to start him ahead of Jake when you consider all he has is a cap off the bench, whilst Jake just has two starts (and one of the bench). What Jake really has, and what will secure him the starting spot, is a combination with Frisby inside him and the likes of Samu and Karmichael outside him.

wouldnt matter who started at flyhalf... they would have the likes of Frisby Samu and Karmichael outside them?

yeah but it's Jake's combination (2 years as Brisbane City flyhalf alongside Frisby and Samu, and then one with Karmichael.

Surely Gilly must feel a little snubbed yet again? i'm very happy for Simmo and his dedication to Queensland Rugby deserved some recognition but Gilly has just led us to a 2nd NRC title and was leading us all year last season with some unbelievable performances, hes very articulate and surely as respected amongst the playing group as Simmo. i dont understand the decision tbh.

I liked having three experienced run-on locks fighting to start. Just felt that Simmo (and Horwill last season) needed more pressure. The pressure is less surely when one must start. I cant doubt though that Simmons has the experience.

I doubt Gill will be miffed, but he might have been at better call imo.

I don't know, I think they both have rightful claim to the role, Gill seems to be a natural leader but Simmons is also one of the most experienced players in the squad if you count all his Super Rugby and test caps. I think they could have gone either way.

At this stage I'm not 100% sold on any of the 10s moving ahead.

That said McIntyre is probably more Super Rugby ready. 2 years NRC vs 1 and a few caps already.

The big issue with the NRC is there is no defence. Either by the 10s or in front of them. Greene and his country teams mates were awful when they didn't have the ball.

As many found out last year, it's a massive step up from NRC to Super Rugby and whichever 10 makes the leap best will be the one to go with.

M Mafi - EDS player
A Korzyck - Season Ending ACL

Greene is a great player but McIntyre has much better game control, direction and play calling. Which has seen him move in front of Greene.

Intruder, is there anywhere we can find out this sort of info? So Korczyk is out for 12 months with ACL? That's a bitch.

You say Mac has better game control, presume this is based on NRC? Or perhaps training? I'm more than happy with one to be seen as having "moved ahead", they have to be setting on a team at this point. Im just hoping they have both lined up for opportunity in pre-season. Once we are into the Soup season the opposite is needed, and lock down on one for long enough to move beyond starting Super Rugby jitters.

I assumed it was due to Simmons being a current Wallaby. I cant think of any other reason and dont believe this is even a good reason.

I am happy with Simmons and even happier with having so many worthy options.

I would have Slipper as my third choice behind 1-Gill, 2-Simmons and 3-Slipper. I would probably have Hunt as VC as I do think he will be our leader in the backs.

So outside of those on the Reds website is this the entire WTS, has Jack Tuttle(not James) been announced previously? Jack Tuttle like Mack Mason has returned from the NRL.

-Alex Gibbon (wing)
-Mack Mason (fly-half)
-Izack Rodda (lock)
-Jack Tuttle (centre)
-Markus Vanzati (prop)
-Moses Sorovi (halfback)
-Matt Mafi (hooker)
-Alex Mafi (hooker)
-Lagi Setu (centre)

Happy to Chat

Nev Cottrell (35)
Alex Mafi? Not sure which one he would be on as I get confused between the Supplementary Contract the WTS (Wider Training Squad), EPS (Emerging/Elite Player Squad) and the EDS (Emerging/Elite Development Squad).

@TOCC, The use of drones providing images of teams training raises some interesting ethical questions. In the last week, there have been drone images posted of Randwick club training and the Reds.

In the old days, there were often accusations from Coaches about spies attending closed training sessions before tests, taking notes and/or photographs.

Short of training under the roof inside Otago, Docklands or Cardiff Stadiums, it is going to be hard to stop the almost undetectable aerial surveillance of final preparatory training sessions before critical tests or provincial matches.

If it isn't done by the opposition team, then we all know how ethical the media can be, and the lengths that some of them will go to to get their story.

Goromaru should here for the trials one would think. His top league team got bundled out 2 weeks ago now.

As someone pointed out to me when I made a similar comment in the Tahs thread, all the Japanese teams are still playing off to determine the order of finishing (bit like a world sevens round). So everyone will finish their seasons at the same time.

Just need to arm an assistant coach with one of these:

With all due respect to Tyrell, but I wonder if he's just spot holding for Tui or Goromaru and he will be digitally replaced eventually.
