Instead of say, specifically designing contracts so our best players spend their off season in Japan?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "instead of", but I don't support the Japan contracts during the off-season at all. Playing footy in Top League still isn't the R&R that players need after Super Rugby, much less a full test season on top of that.

Obviously part of the issue is player payments but fuck me if the ARU think that fielding a Wobs side where a third of the starters are burnt out and underperforming from having no real offseason is going to help them financially.

JOC (James O'Connor) looks safe but others not so

REPORTS in France this week quoted Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal saying that James O’Connor will return to the glamour French club after the World Cup.
But that is not true. O’Connor is committed to remaining Queensland for the 2016 season, and we understand he has no plans to return to Toulon at any stage this year or next.
But several other Reds stars can’t wait to get out of the joint, sending their CVs all over the world.
It’s one big unhappy family in Brisbane and the prospect of coach Richard Graham remaining next year has seen players give the old “anywhere but here” memo to their agents.
The QRU has announced an independent review into their high performance unit, with the results due in late June, by when the Reds’ season will be done and dusted.
It’s odd that nobody in the Reds’ hierarchy is prepared to make a call on Graham’s future.

With Hansen off to the Rebels next year, and talk that Anae was heading back to Brisbane I was hoping he'd be back in Red again next year. I'm not sure if this is just for the NRC? Anyone have any other news?

Have the quotes from Horan on Quade looking to stay at the Reds from today's news blog been discussed anywhere? I thought that might be bigger news than it seems in here but can't find any chat on it.

Tim Horan said:
Well what I’m hearing is, and I don’t know this for sure, but what I’m hearing is that Quade has signed a letter of intent but he would like to stay in Australia and play rugby,” Horan said.

“He wants to stay and play in Australia, and play for the Reds and the Wallabies.

“So if it’s a couple of hundred grand to get out of that contract, the Australian Rugby Union or the Queensland Rugby Union; how are they going to come up with those funds? The Australian Rugby Union should not be paying those funds if that’s the case.”

Ouch. I hope it can be resolved if true. Quades best years are in front of him and I'd like to see them from my seat at Lang Park.

If true, Cooper did save over 200k on his new pad so he some has change there to pay off his contract. Or he can sell his mum and dads Bentley he got them.

Certainly did buy up big around the Toulon singing

Hope he dose stay.....

Didn't buy the Bentley!

They let him "loan" one for his mum for a little while.

Not a bad perk huh..

Why? Wasn't Horan right?

I find it hard that anyone could blame Horan for misinformation re Genia contract saga. I was told Lucas was congratulated by coach and player on being the 9 next ....oh wait...sorry, we called Genia's bluff and he's calling no fair.

CM reporting Thomson wanting to stay.
“If I’m wanted, I’m definitely available for a second season at the Reds,” Thomson said.

I am starting to get the feeling that the players know something about next years coaching setup that we don't. I guess we will have to wait for the results of the extensive review.

Surely Thomson would not stick around to play in the same setup from this year, there are so many other places in the world nicer than Brisbane to play in a losing team and get paid for it.
