Would love to see more of Sam Greene in 2015; has definitely bulked up and gained plenty of confidence since his colts days playing at prems level, but unsure as to how big he can be. Time will tell..

Hopefully, a consistent Reds organisation in 2016 has the following:
- more game time for Fakaosilea over Thomson (work rate and effectiveness in all aspects of our beloved game)
- Greene preaching from the pulpit regularly, unless Quade changes his mind again..
- Liam Gill / Richard Graham's aunty's step-brother's neighbour's grandson's best mate (let's face it, it may as well be that guy if Graham sticks around..)
- Kuridrani over Turner.. And that's not just from tonight's game, the guy is a natural, just like all of his cousins and brother Nadolo
- a huge signing.. And not just any four hype signings that you can simply pull from the free agent cards, resulting in a flop (Thomson), an automatic injury (Tui), a contract looking for a YouTube sensation (Thor) and a YouTube sensation simply looking for a contract (Bieber). We need some raw, jaw-dropping signing because 2015's definitely didn't go to plan. Maybe slip under the radar and hint towards an all black who may be looking to head to the NH and throw some interest there. Probably doesn't seem as easy as it is, but who knows..

There've been some great fly halves, like Volavola, running around but have been overshadowed due to other stars taking the limelight.
Any word on the likes of Hegarty (Rebs), Iona (Brumbies), or even Godwin or Burton (Force) for 2016?

Because Aus rugby fans are fucking morons mate. Any forward who plays more than a meter wide of the breakdown is a fucking bludger.

People fail to understand that some forwards need to play wider and their job is to use their speed and fitness to be involved where the tight forwards can't get to in time.

Most knucklehead Aussie fans think you should have 8 tight forwards who only play no wider than the 10 contrary to how the best teams play.

Agreed 100%

By Australian logic, Kieran Read and Duane Vermuelen are just seaguls.

While on backrowers, Lolo Fakosoleia (or however it's spelt) looks the goods in the glimpses we've seen. For the rest of the season I'd be giving him some serious game time over Thompson or Shatz.

This is a recipe for a disaster in 2016! I agree that both youngsters (Sam and Lolo) were standouts in Premiers but by no means they are ready to take any leading role in 2016 Reds. Team needs S15 experienced players for this positions. Aside of that I do remember that Thomson has been regularly praised on this forum for his commitment and workrate. He should be retained for 2016 and along with Thorn teach our youngsters (Korczyk, Fakosilea) the trade.

Add to the mix you also have coaches who train the forwards to work in pods a long way from the breakdown. Backs are responsible for securing re-cycled ball too, leaving forwards the freedom to set up for ball carries away from the breakdown.
Seagulling is an old term for lazy forwards who waited near the sideline in case the ball came their way. Today the team strategy is to deliberately get the ball into wide channels where forwards are pre-positioning themselves as part of the whole team attacking structure.

glad to see Genia gone to be honest. He is so slow these days, takes a couple of steps, runs around, changes direction, has a cup of tea, then passes the ball. Granted, it put players into space a couple of times but 2011 Genia would give fast ball, and only run if the opportunity was there. not every fucking time

I think Fainga'a has been one of the biggest problems in defence so it is definitely down to him.

No one should make defensive errors because they're trying to cover for other people. You have to get your own house in order first.

Would make good advice to KB (Kurtley Beale), BH. Fortunately, Horne hasn't yet stuffed up covering for others'defensive lapses. Off topic for sure, but still very relevant.

And by their nature, pods are static when they receive the ball. A good in-your-face defense will invariably stop the pod behind the gain line thus achieving very little. The modern Aus game keeps the ball much too long in the forwards and good attacking backs are often ignored.

Not too certain it is *entirely* his issue (there also appears to be quite a few guys not presenting solid options - or not knowing what to do next), but yeah, he does a hell of a lot of standing around at the back of the ruck whilst the opposition push through to take the ball. His results from his box kicking are utterly, diabolically bad - almost always present awesome attacking ball for the opposition.

A decent sports psychologist would sort him out though (if he had a mindset to listen - I have no idea what he is like as an individual).

Thomson won't make it either.....

Seriously, how hard is it to get this bloke's name right?

I don't understand why some here think that Thompson had a bad game. Yes he seagulled somewhat but he's still contributing more to our breakdown than most of our forwards week in - week out, as well as contributing as a linking player in quite a few of our tries.

He has had a great year at the ruck/break down and pretty good in defense. However his impact in attack hasn't been brilliant(I think due to age, doesn't have that pace and power he once had).

I think last night was one of his poorer performances for the reds. His body height and physicality into contact was poor. Certainly wasn't as clinical at the break down as he has been in the past. He was getting into the right positions but just not executing.
