I've got to say that's not a particularly strong looking list. Only a couple of international standard players there.

With 5 teams and only 2 real genuine catchment areas it's pretty much to be expected isn't it?

For completeness, could you list the "foreigners" that have played for the reds over the same period?

This is a more concerning list for supporters. Granted I've forgotten some, but this is what I have;

Quade Cooper
Will Genia
James Horwill
Digby Ioane
Berrick Barnes
Leroy Houston
Blair Connor
Brock James
Paul Alo-Emile
Nick Cummins
Ole Avei
Jesse Mogg
Ben Mowen
Ben Lucas
James O'Connor
Dayna Edwards
Ben Toolis
Alex Toolis
Daniel Heenan
Michael Bond
Dallan Murphy
Brendan McKibbin
Sam Johnson
Albert Vulivuli
Dave McDuling
Marco Kotze
David Feao
Poutasi Luafutu
Drew Mitchell
Mark Chisholm
Beau Robinson
Ed Quirk
James Ambrosini
Luke McLean
Jack Payne

Chek gave both Will and Quade a chance - one took it and the other continued with his average form Correct ?????

No, its not the way I see it. "Continued average form" was actually a matter of needing game time to play himself into form. And that time wasnt available. I dont rate Foley over Quade but accept the choices Cheika made.

I comfortable if this is something that we are not going to agree on.

With Will, I think he was overtaken by Phipps.

In any case, this is sliding sideways from my point. Nothing in Cheikas demeanour, selections, statement etc has made any suggestion that this halves pairing was not coachable. RG and Marto's thoughts are not authoritative. It is another indication of a weak coach, a weak leader, that he could not coach the team with these internationals on board.

I don't see what is so concerning, states like QLD and NSW will always produce more talent then they can retain and they will always produce superstars that other teams throw a fortune at to recruit.

Honesty I don't think it's a talent issue at the Reds, I think they have a strong nucleus of highly talented individuals, it's poor coaching which is letting them down.

Under Link, it was consistently reported by various sources that Quade was instrumental in developing game strategies and tactics. Link was often quoted saying things that inferred that the way to coach these days is to get the buy-in of the players and work with them, using their strengths.

Quade isn't uncoachable because one particular coach couldn't coach him. That just makes that one coach a bit of a dud.

It seems like RG either has an extremely limited skill set as a coach or an extremely narrow view on how a team should be coached and play.

Similar to being a successful manager.

The goal is not to tell your staff what to do, it is to get them to the point that they tell you they want to do what you wanted in the first place.

This gives ownership.

A simple example is to show the players footage of a game and ask them is there anyway we can stop the opposition from lining up the centres for big tackles where the ball gets turned over. Hopefully the halves might suggest that if they are a little flatter this will reduce the time that the defence has to get organised.

This means the coach is not telling the players ((a generation who does not like being told anything (link worked this out by coaching with twitter)) what to do, they are making a decision.

I just do not think RG must have the ability to speak to the players.

Dru I think he meant the QLD developed players that we have lost to overseas clubs.

The few that spring to mind are the obvious ones:

James Horwill
Will Genia
Quade Cooper
Drew Mitchell
James O'Connor
Ben Mowen
Rod Davies
Scott Higginbotham
Eddie Quirk
Jesse Mogg? (Born in QLD, no idea where he grew up/played Rugby, possibly ACT)
Berrick Barnes (???)
Digby Ioane (? No idea how much Rugby he played in QLD)

Mogg was st Patricks, Digby was Terrace and Barnes was IGS

I don't need to point out the obvious difference between Genia/Cooper and Frisby/McIntyre do I?

Cooper could stand flatter against a rush defence because him and Genia had a fast flat wide pass. They could beat the defence standing flatter. The Tahs were giving up space out wide and the couple of times we were quick enough to get around them we made big metres. The drama is that Jake doesn't have that pass in him, hence standing way deeper to give more time to move the ball.

Have played 10, your point is good about the play but I think you will find McIntyre stands that deep due to Frisby being so slow with the ball. If he stood flatter the defence would have him nailed by the time he received the ball. Compare Frisby to other half backs such as Phipps and Genia, even Tuttle - they get the ball out the back line much quicker. Would help if Frisby looked as well.

I have wondered that about Frisby. It was something that I noticed against the Tahs, or at least I thought I noticed.
On a fair few occasions Frisby seemed to take an age to get to the ruck. So much so that a couple of times we had quick ball ready and no half leaving someone like Browning to pick the ball up and toss it to a flat footed prop to get driven back. For a quick guy, I don't know why he takes so long to get there.

His speed of delivery looked slow too but I wasn't sure enough of this to make the comment.

I thought the ball was released quicker when Gale came on but I think there were other factors in play. Frisby was best at the start of the second half when he was trying to speed things up.

although Digby learned to play in Victoria, went to Qld on a scholarship after the u16's from memory, so the Mexicans (and his heritage) gave him the grounding, the Qld schools, the Force and the Reds (read Link) polished him up

I believe that you are all correct.

If you notice, Gale will drive through his pass giving him more zip, hence giving his outside players more time with the ball.

Frisby will not drive through the ball from the deck, he opens his shoulders/chest up and will push the ball out, but I believe the reason is because how tightly bound his shoulders are with strapping. When he is more upright and on the move, he can swing the ball from the hips, as was seen when McIntyre went in.

Last year we saw Phipps having to sprint to the breakdown just to keep up with the speed of the Tahs, given it was a quick, long place. Frisby needs to pick up his pace from breakdown to the next, in order to give himself and his outside players more time.

IMO, I think Gale is the better half. I haven't seen enough of Tuttle to comment, but I did notice Tuttle was first choice for Qld Country in the NRC, so......
