Thanks Reg. Hopefully we see more of Fattal in the NRC this year then. Potentially him and Murday for Country and McDuling and Kotze for City.

Bobby have you been to many of Thor'e games? I watched his match via the YouTube stream on the weekend and whilst he can obviously run and pass, I still think he is learning the technicalities of scrummaging.. His side of the scrum was dominated a few times early on in the match..

Give him a crack in the NRC, but I see no reason to rush him into the Reds for 2016 with some good young props stepping up into the role already.

Undoubtedly.

But just as far as athletes go, and age for that matter. Thor and Paraka let's say, are just miles apart in shape. Given the NRC and another full pre-season, I think it's crazy how much potential the man has to grow. The fact that he is already playing so well, technical issues aside, is kind of frightful for a prop of that age. I can't think I've seen one like him, even Kitschoff who was regularly playing for the Stormers at 19 was a different style to him. SK will be a formidable player for a looooong time, I hope THor can be for us. Greg will be very good mentor for him too.

I see Terrin Walls, Sam Fattal and Jack Payne were in the Reds Under 20s last year. I see Fattal was in the Country NRC squad as well as Payne. Payne's dimensions concern me. At 195cm he's more likely to be a 6/lock than out and out lock.

I have never seen Fattal play, but he has all the attributes on paper. Young, massive, went to TSS - sounds alot like Rob Simmo doesn't it? I look forward to seeing / hearing how he goes - because on paper he seems like a Monty to be the next development lock. But I shouldn't get too excited, as they take a long time to become ripe (except for the Saffas!)

I've seen him play a couple of times now and I've never seen him dominated in scrums. In fact I've seen the opposite.

Reg, i haven't seen too many of his matches so I'm going off just what i watched on the weekend and i raise his scrummaging technique as an issue because his opposite number the Sione the 'Tongan Predator' Na'a Helu gave him a real lesson in scrummaging, some of Sione's technique of boring in was illegal but its up to Taniela to deal with this.

If you watch the first 3 scrums you can easily see the poor body positioning from Taniela, his shoulders are often lower then his hips and even just before the engagement he is shifting his bodyweight to get a better position.

These are the time stamps of all the scrums in the first half, i didnt watch the second half but its definitely a points victory to Sione... Thor will be all the better for it.

Exactly.

Of course he isn't the finished article, far from it. But the signs he is showing at this stage is beyond promising.

doesn't look like he started many (if any) games. Mostly used as a reserve prop.

Don't think we need any more props. Perhaps another hooker (assuming Faingaas might be off next year).

Wilson

Phil Kearns (64)
Yeah you'd think it could only be as a hooker, and then only if someone was leaving. We're pretty full up on props with just about everyone either delivering already or full of potential.

Although if Daley's latest injury is bad enough to force him out of the game that might offer Anae an opportunity.

Albert is a great guy. Had a lot to do with him when he was finishing school and started playing Colts. Really hard worker too.

Wonderful news.

Anae would be ideal as a hooker.

I think we have some good props coming through in Parraka, Fa'agase and Talaki, but hooker could need some strengthening.

Andrew Ready is quality, I have no doubts about him having a good Super Rugby career. But if Fainga'a leaves, we could really use an experienced hooker to back up Chibba and Ready.

I think i just saw on Ultimate Rugby that UJ Seuteni started at 10 for Toulon on the weekend. Im not sure how he played but since he wasnt pulled at all abd played the full 80 i suppose he wasnt horrible. Could he be someone we try to lure back home? Surely he would have been a better back up then Paia'aua.

I'm sure he would. Unless he would do it for the same price as Paia'aua it's a moot point though.

Albert may be the perfect match at Hooker. Not worried about Saia but the other bloke.

gees, let's give Duncan a chance shall we? A source I have, whom I respect greatly, who has been involved in Jnr teams for many many years, reckons he's one of the best he's seen.

I'm prepared to give him more than a dozen games of rugby this year to prove his abilities.

Coach Thompson should be able to knock him into shape during the Under 20's campaign in Italy at Jnr RWC.

Give him some QPR club games and some decent exposure during the NRC, and then we may be in a position to pass some judgement on him.
