It would've been a bit silly as far as a marketing exercise goes to make a preseason Jersey to sell and then only use it in one of the two trials.
That being said though they really should have asked the Brumbies to wear their alternate strip.

I sent an email to the Reds on Sunday Night asking if their lack of delivery of services that had been paid for was a sign on pending insolvency.

On Monday I called the Reds and said that I had sent an email and was still waiting for my membership and hat. I did not mention my name at this point and the girl who answered called me by name and said she would send it straight away. On Tuesday morning I received my membership (toddler membership for daughter) and received the card, shirt and backpack. Delivered by a courier.

I called on Tuesday to tell the Reds that I did not think I should have received the backpack as i did not think it was part of the package, I offered to send it back but was told to keep it as it was part of the pack but not mentioned on the website. I had not received the hat I was charged for and I think the backpack was an error they did not want to admit to. The girl I spoke to said she would send a hat in the mail personally.

On Wednesday I received a hat in the mail.

On Friday I received another hat by courier!

I hope the stuff ups behind the scenes are not played out on the pitch

Least it seems that girl you spoke to was trying to do the right thing.

This "away" jersey practice we've adopted from soccer should be abandoned immediately. In this instance were there not ANY alternative jumpers for the Reds to wear, a set of practice jumpers or somesuch in the kit room. If I was the ref here I would've called in the two team managers and asked them what other jumpers were available; the Brumbies probably didn't have any while the Reds surely did.

The home team has ground advantage as well as access to all the gear that team uses. Considering the amount of travel professional rugby teams endure in the SH I'd like to see an initiative from rugby where the visiting team carries ONE kit, its traditional one, and the home team changes if there's a clash.

Not having a go at you, Reg. But a bit of commonsense from the Reds here could've fixed this problem.

See, I would have thought that there would have been some communicatinos with all the teams doing trial matches to co-ordinate what colour their trial strips were going to be at the start... So that way they could each have the 1 strip that they could sell, and there wouldn't be any clash...

TOCC, that news probably didn't reach parts distant 'cos the horse got tired.....

It might've been clear to some but I certainly didn't know. And as a dyed-in-the-wool Tahs supporter, who gets every email they send out, I had no idea what kit they were taking to Wagga until they ran out. Same goes for Brumbies.

This Ballymore colour clash should've been fixed by the ref and team managers once it became apparent.

Putting the tinfoil on, I am wondering if the lack of cohesion between different aspects of the game reveals issues between coaches. the set piece rocks but we got bashed in the rucks, we played to deep in attack and defence on the edges was poor. do the coaches get on?.......Naaaaahhh, we had a review and a worldwide search for a new coach, appointed a tonne of new talent to fix everything and they obviously think they have. That confusing mess on show last night was the effort of the whole organisation resetting or a successful 2016.

I agree... Last night was slapdash at best. I was also expecting to see more combinations tested too... Like Hunt & Kerevi in the centres, how Goro works in with the backline etc... It just didn't happen...

So, I guess RG is just gonna throw it all together in Round 1 and hope it will just click?

Tahs weren't playing with a specially designed and marketed pre-season jersey though were they?
Even if the Brumbies missed the memo they would have at least been aware last week when they watched the footage of the Reds vs Crusaders trial match.

There's a lot of reason to be critical towards the Reds, but a jersey clash where the away team didn't bring an appropriate alternate jersey isn't one of them.

Reds coach Richard Graham, who faces a difficult task to steel his side for what surely will be a difficult season ahead, was not overly disappointed in the result.
“I thought our intent was much better than last week (against the Crusaders, who won 31-3),” he said.
“I thought we played out the 80 minutes which is pleasing. But we turned the ball over far too many times. We played a side there who are an established side, been together five years and their combinations are clear.”

You know who were an established side, had a core that had been together for five years and their combinations were clear?

The Reds, when Richard F**king Graham took over !!! And he almost immediately took them to the bottom and made them play like losers.

Every time I think that I am over it and can be resigned about our position as the easy beats of the competition, RG comes out with yet another stunner of a statement that completely and utterly abounds with gross stupidity and ignorance of history. There is no way he doesn't realise what he is saying.

He should go into politics - he is that adept at drawing incorrect conclusions and stating utter nonsense as if he actually believes it, he would be an instant hit in today's parliamentary circles.

Either that, or he is the greatest example of "managing up" in the history of middle management. He should write a text book on his techniques. It would probably read like Dr Suess though - without the rhymes - but would definitely include the same flair for the fantastical.

Gel, I still chuckle at that post where you opine on RG running into the change room and writing "I am a fish" 100 times on the whiteboard in front of the players. Comes to mind whenever I read a quote from him or see him in tv.

I'd definetly buy Woody's text book.

I had a rugby resolution to get over it. But like you Gel I just don't seem to be able to pull it off.

Let's hope that Herbert can get hold of both the message and the implementation. I think there is more control over Dick this year. It is already time that they started using it.

My attempt to stay true to my resolution is repentance through publicly voicing the positive. I suspect these might get a little repetitive but what the hell.

I love the way the Reds pull local talent through into and out of the NRC. And I have total respect of how they have handled the NRC. Full marks. This feeds to the whole of Aussie rugby, not just Qld.

Old talent pool remains one of the best in the world imvho. Guys I am really watching this year are Fagase, Lolo, McIntyre (bit of tough love), Korczyk, Laloifi, Matwijou (watch this space!). Make it big boys!!!

We've had some smart purchases. Douglas was a bit of opportunism that I suspect will turn out to be awesome. Neville is a fabulous add. Goro is smart business and real on field potential. Hendrik was a tough situation last year, but he looks like paying us off.

The marketing team is fabulous. Imagine if they actually had a product to market! Creative enough to get this doubter occasionally enthused. Got to recognise talent where it exists.

I love the Reds web site. Side stories like Parry and Way (hope Way wasn't involved in the Pocock replacement thing) really round out the rugby experience. Also the way they periodically report on the clubs allows this expat to feel just a little still in touch with Brisbane. Love your work guys.

Streaming - simply showing the way in Super Rugby. Anyone tried to find something similar in SA? I really wanted to stay close to the Saffers this year. It isn't easy. And I love that on Gr & G I can say "hey it would be good if we could listen to a bit of the refs" and the very next game we get "hold up a bit, what's the ref saying". How's that for audience participation!

There you go, that's not so foul.

:)

Why a team called the Reds is wearing blue is beyond stupid

Yeah, nah.

Responsibility to not clash jersies is with the away team. And that Reds preseason jersey is one of their better ones.
Of course I'm just pointing out the silliness of the Reds wearing Blue..
