Don't disagree with most of what you have said Reg however there are many people who are disillusioned with Queensland rugby right now. The marketing section of the QRU are weekly asking for our hard earned yet they choose not to listen or respond to members or even ex players when they send an email or a facebook post. I remember a while ago in this thread that Reds marketing department had deleted a players thoughts who had played for them what 90 times! The marketing department are the face of the QRU so its only obvious that they will cop the full force of members sprays. It is their job to try and settle those opinions down rather than just dismiss them or delete them which to me is just as ignorant.

I disagree with most of what you have said. There isn't a company or sporting team in the country that wouldn't delete comments on social media. 5 year's ago it barely existed and now fans are frustrated that they are being 'silenced'. Well if it means so much to you vote with your feet and don't show up. That'll show the boys in the suits who is boss won't it?! Pity about the players who get out there and bust a gut every week regardless of how well they have been coached. Bet they don't enjoy playing to an empty stadium. I will continue to go when I can to support them, the guys that pull on a jersey. Think you are frustrated imagine how they feel. It's tempting to chuck it in but I don't think it does much good in the long run. The marketing team are doing an excellent job if they can pull 26,000 fans in the worst year this decade. Good on them I say.

I think the posters who are seriously upset should pick the board member or CEO they think deserves to know about it & send them an actual letter. Because the Facebook intern is unlikely to pass the message on.
As long you make your points well enough you won't be written off as a lunatic and probably stand a much better chance of getting a reply.

Have done so in the past. I have formerly sponsored players and have had corporate boxes. Yet two letters went unanswered. They are more interested in your and my dollars and that is the core of my problem. But that's my experience.

Even harder sell if his "cap rate" for the Wallabies is just a handful a year at best - if he get off the bench behind Foley.

He's been involved with the Wallabies for 7 years for 53 caps, including a rookie year where I think he only played one or two off the bench. Not bad cap rate considering his injuries, at all.

I don't think Foley is a Test level flyhalf, but I've resigned myself to the fact that he will be our flyhalf going forward. I think halves are a real weakness for us, actually, and that many over rate Foley.

Hope that Foley proves me wrong, because he needs to if we are to go well.

I was under the impression that Cordingley was also instrumental in the recruitment. It certainly wasn't all Richard Graham by himself, so attributing it solely to him is spurious. I am fine to give him some credit for it (and did so earlier in this thread) - but not all the credit.

Sorry i didn't mind to disregard Cordingly's input. I probably didn't articulate well. I forgot to elaborate that a team with no coach, therefore nobody to sell the vision of the team and what he wants out of the player, may be even harder to recruit for.

I think it was mentioned prior how it's thought Graham presents well to the board and the way he's helped assemble this squad, he must have come across well to them.

The concern is what if we have the same lack of coaching, combined with a poor squad due to an inability to attract quality players.

If we thought it was bad now, that could be absolutely diabolical.

Are the QRU board member emails (personal or business - preferably the former where they're unlikely to have any filtering set up) listed anywhere online?

If they're not I can get to digging.

I still think it's important to keep in mind that regardless of whether these folks are torpedoing our sports franchise of choice or not, they deserve the same level of respect that you'd provide to anyone you meet in real life.

It might actually get someone's attention if all of us were to use the same Subject line for our messages - any ideas?

Will we really have the capacity to attract top-level talent after this season, though?

If Graham has a vision I wish he'd present it as well on the field as he may be to the board - that would be wonderful.

-Head coach at Manly in the SS, undefeated premiership in his first year (1997)

Tim Lane was quite an innovative coach whilst at Manly and managed players well. His selections were usually solid, he stuck to a philosophy for the season, and he worked well with other coaches in the club. His emphasis on a structured running game led to some fine victories.
That was some time ago but he has built a pretty good CV since then.

I think he'd be great for the Reds.

Qld no.7's are terribly unlucky with career timing.

"SANZAR statistics graphically illustrate the fundamental difference between the two champions: Pocock has won 11 turnovers (in six matches) to Hooper’s four (in nine), although Liam Gill eclipses both of them — and every other player in Super Rugby — by leading the competition with 18 turnovers (in nine). On the flip side, Hooper has carried the ball 82 times for a gain of 330m to Pocock’s 68 and 147m."

Imagine this season without Gill....

I heard a rumour last night that Michael O'Connor could be on the radar. My problem with this is, if its true, is he has never coached 15's rugby and hasn't played it anywhere near the professional era.

I'd love to see O'Connor involved, though probably as a backs/skills coach rather than as a head coach. He has a long history in talent identification and development roles and would be invaluable working with the crop of young backs we currently have. Wouldn't be the worst idea to give him an nrc side this year, particularly if stiles ends up with the wallabies.

I am more than willing to highlight the flaws in the coaching. But is it potentially possible that the Reds management have looked, and there is nobody suitable available?

Surely this isn't just some devious plot by the management to force Richard Graham onto the fans. What do they get out of this?

If there is no viable replacement, what action can they take going forward? I read somebody post an off the cuff remark that they should just let Quade coach. At the time I thought, "hey, can't do any worse and probably will work better". But then I thought further. Who's going to management the squad and the recruitment for 2016? That's the issue. Say what you want about Graham, but he recruited very well.

Coming into the season where was the big question mark?

It wasn't at 10. We all knew we had Quade, with Duncan, JOC (James O'Connor), Hunt and McIntyre all as injury back ups. For a player who is only going to miss games if injured, and is your out and out starting player you cannot allocate huge funds to a back up who isn't a starter somewhere else.

The questions marks were over the front row in fact. How have we gone there? I think excluding 2 games (Brumbies and Tahs at Suncorp) we've fucking dominated there. Are scrum has only improved from 2013 and we have 2 great young THP prospects coming through.

It was an astutely put together squad. Potentially deficiencies - but so does every squad. We could poke flaws in Cheika's 2014 Tahs squad, but luck went his way, depths in weak positions wasn't tested, only strong positions.

So now the questions becomes what's best? Surely moving Graham on can only improve 2015. It's not working, he's had ample opportunity. Surely even management can see that.

The problem because if Graham leaves, nobody is looking at the squad for 2016. None of the assistants are ready to step up, based on what they've managed to get out of fringe players they've got a long way to go. What if they boot Graham, can't find a replacement and as a result they lose players and struggle to actively chase recruits? Where are we then? 2016 is over before it's even started.

This has been an interesting case. I have always thought that football clubs of all codes had been far to quick to sack coaches. Players know they can ride out any coach they don't like if a team isn't performing, and that completely undermines the coaches authority.

The Reds have strongly backed their coach, basically saying they won't be held to ransom by the players. I actually somewhat respect this course of action, unless they are completely ignoring the issues.


A very interesting insight, TWAS, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
Especially after reading so many 'hearts on the sleeve' posts which don't really add anything constructive to this and other threads involving the Reds.
