I'm really happy with the signing as I know how effective he was for the Highlanders but I just hope we haven't grabbed Thomson past his use-by date. His play style needs some athleticism and physicality to be effective.

Being a realist here - I think the way the Reds brought in an aging Samo and got some career best form out of him was a long-shot come good. Its hard to replicate that kind of success. Definitely think Thomson should be a good signing but I just hope RG hasn't pulled the trigger thinking we'll be getting Samo 2.0 out of him and not having a backup plan.

Good signing. But I sincerely hope the Reds' brains trust have thought about their tactics for third/fourth/whatever phase play after Adam carts the pill up: he's never going to pass it. Mind you, he is a good ball carrier.

BTW, can we please get his name right, it's Thomson, not Thompson.

Don't like old mate! You were putting him out to pasture!
TWAS - he was putting himself out to pasture, not me.

It is refreshing that his performances have improved - hope it continues, of course. It will be good for the Reds.

I am starting to like the Reds pigs.

You haven't put Holmes out to pasture already too have you?

Geez think Thomson is bloody good signing, as much as what he will teach the other loosies (bit likeDan Braid) as much as for his use around field.

He'll be a good signing for many reasons
a) his skills in the air, at the breakdown and ball in hand will be the the best amongst all the forwards pretty much. Will start or be on the bench as long as long as he is fit.
b) He will teach our blokes a thing or two about discipline, work ethic and taking individual responsibility for refining your skills from his AB's experience.
c) Apparently he loves a practical joke so that's always good.

Now we need 2 props and an outside back (probably) right?

I don't know about Thomson being the ultra-professional example that is being made out. Not saying he is unprofessional at all, but I doubt he is significantly better than some of the current Reds.

On the field though I could not be happier. A+ quality Super Rugby player and I think we are fortunate he was never able to cement himself as a first choice All Black.

Saw Fa'agase play live last week against Rams and he was very very average. Fair way of super standards.

Yeah, I agree with you. BUT who else do we have. Daley refuses or cannot play THP. Since Holmes looks out I have been calling for a THP to be signed. It is the most important position in the pack and a weak one will reflect on the scrummaging of the Reds.

Personally, I would sign another experienced front rower to provide short term cover until Holmes is recovered. Then sign Talakai who is by far the next best THP off the rank. Fa'agase has been poor and is too small for Super Rugby level and Kite has not contributed much to the Bne side.

I'm really excited by this. I've always been a big fan of Thomson. I think he adds what the Reds are missing with ball in hand. Hopefully he shows Lolo the ropes.

We still need props though. I'm not sure where we can grab them from at the NRC guys have not filled me with confidence. Anyone in the ITM with an Aussie grandmother?

With this whole new squad Reds look dangerous, maybe you should have Graham as recruitment manager and find a new coach. Heard Link might be after a job (jks)

we could make up one of those silly "teams" selected to meet some criterion and posted to rugby web sites.
the "wrong names" team start with:

Adam Thompson
Steve Holies
Elton Flately
Tevita Kurindrani
his cousin Tevita Kurindriani
Israel Fulou
his cousin Israel Falou
Lindonner

who else is there?
