Richard Graham needs to go.

I'm all for giving a coach a 2nd chance but the fact he's been here 2 seasons being groomed under Link.. There was an expectation & he has failed. thus far. (still some footy to be played but not looking good)

There will not be a lot of belief in 2015 both from the players standpoint & from the fans if we show patience & give Graham another year.

Fair points all, but then who do you replace him with? We obviously expect a lot from our coaching staff, so who is currently available that is capable of, for want of a better term, turning the Reds around?

You can't pull the pin on Woody mid season, that would court disaster. There actually needs to be a thorough process in selecting the right coach, one with pedigree, vision, is aligned with organisational goals and has the skills to get the best out of the playing group. That process takes time - and that is assuming the Reds actually want to get rid of Graham.

Woody has only realistically had control of the Reds for half a season. At least wait until the season is over before calling for his head!

The selection process must be right. This is a major issue at the moment. We've gone back to giving jobs to mates, without a proper process to find the best candidate. This is across the HP department.

Compare to what the force have done in recent years it really paints a poor picture.

I wouldn't think Graham will go after one season as HC but the onus will be on him to make changes. And there will be. As the article posted somewhere previously states, there will be no more coasting off the 2011 success. I suspect the Faingaas will be the first ones to go. They are getting paid wallaby levels and aren't playing as such.

As for next coaches however, hypothetically? How about Matt Cockbain from the Rebels and Nathan Grey from the Tahs?

Too many players are static when they receive the ball in attack. This is mostly the responsibility of the passer to put the ball out in front of a charging forward, or even better a small group of charging forwards. Body height and power into contact will bend all but the sternest defence, making it easier for the clean out to proceed faster and the ball into Cooper's hands in front of a staggered / retreating defence, to play that unique kind of rugby - touch hybrid game that suits his skill set. The reds are often playing one out runners, from standing starts, with more guys seemingly standing laterally waiting for the next phase. I think that it is easier to score from 2 to 5 phases for us, than from 15 to 20, so I say lets go for penetrative packs of forwards running together and blitz cleanouts. We dont have naturally offloading forwards. Dont worry about the future so much .play the present phase with 100% commitment .Unfortunately it may be too difficult to change habits mid season. There are other contributors to this forum with more coaching nous than my modest junior stuff but I cant believe that the ability to pass the ball to the SPACE IN FRONT of a runner is not still being taught.

Ummm Quade tossed a few balls into the space in front of runners.. what happened it bounced and a Brumby picked it up... hard to blame him when they werent running on to it

3 losses by 3 points. 1 of which the Ref blatantly caused, the other 2 we should have won. We're not miles off but need to turn these into victories.

First 2 matches after the bye are huge. Canes & Blues are in roughly the same position on the ladder as Reds & definitely beatable.

Any hypobaric chambers around we can chuck Gill in for the next fortnight?

Yeah, the Fainga'a bros did bring a lot but nothing lasts forever.

I'd agree that the knee-jerk reaction to pay-out the coach's contract and fire him is just that. Too early, and it's not the first order of business. They need to winnow out some players and recruit some more before getting to that stage.

As for coaches in general, there seems to be an over-emphasis on Test players becoming head coaches—as I reckon the Kiwi franchises are now coming to believe (and maybe even some Qlders ;) ). Cockbain and Grey need to develop a bit longer, IMO.

There are some really good coaches that have learned their trade and put in their dues. I reckon someone like this bloke might come to mind a bit more by the end of this year.....

I'd like to see Smee and Stiles in the mix for the NRC jobs as well.

I think that is a massive over-simplification of the Reds woes in attack. Just remember these blokes are professional rugby players and understand that you must go forward before you go wide.
You're kidding: I didn't capture everything in 4 lines? I'm losing it.
I think your last sentence is exactly what I was saying.

If he's recovering from a hammie tear, a hyperbaric chamber might be better.
Hypobaric, or hypoxic (altitude) chambers are better for building aerobic capacity.
He does have a hammie tear, no??

What I hope to see is a better game plan than the over kicking field position game plan we've seen all year. It's the same gameplan Graham turned up with repeatedly at the Force, and it's the same gameplan the Reds have played with most of the games this year. When the chips are down and they are fighting for the close games, it's what they fall back and it isn't working.

The strength of the Reds under Link was the ability to change their gameplan as required. Under Graham and Meehan, the Reds look way too one dimensional, the attack is uncoordinated and the Reds no longer counter attack at all.

Would like to see a change in the second half of the season. If Graham sticks with the same field position / territory / kicking based game plan for the rest of the season then I fully expect it will cost him his job.

The challenge for Graham is to turn it around for the Reds; we will see if he's up to it by the end of the season.

I would imagine RG is definitely here for next year unless there is a massive revolt.

My worry is his ability to keep the good players here and attract good players here. It's enormously difficult to showcase how good you are in a team that is performing badly, and players seeking higher honours are less likely to stick around or come over to a team that is playing like shite. He would want to turn things around really quickly from here till the end of the season, or there may be some kind of trouble.

There are some players off contract soon, are there not?

I guess we will see soonish if there are.

Quade, Davies, Taps and McDuling are all due for new contracts this year according to the first page of this thread.

Fortunately I don't think we need to worry about Quade leaving QLD until he is closer to 29-30. He seems pretty genuine when he says he wants to stay in Brisbane.

My bad. I'd never pull the plug on him midseason. I agree with that philosophy. That you wait until the offseason comes for the evaluation/re-evaluation of next years direction.

I think there is a little bit of an overreaction here, the Reds were comprehensively beaten in the Waratahs game but other then that they have been a bee's dick away from taking the win, the last 4 games were losses but they were all losses by less then 7 points and signifcicantly in all those matches there were a number of missed opportunities by poor finishing or handling.

The chat from within the camp isn't of frustration at the coach, they have faith within the game plan, its the execution and a couple of on-field decisions made in the the dying stages where the Reds are failing.

Hey hey.

You know that Scott Johnson?

I'd Haaaate to part with him, but I really reckon you could use him more than us.

Please?

Also, the QRU has posted a surplus of just under $1 million for 2013 before depreciation, its $287'000 following depreciation. Down on 2012 mainly due to lost earnings by not hosting a home qualifier and the $300'000 funding cut by the ARU.

So looking at the G&GR news this morning, Dick's come out and said the Reds may consider getting a back in from overseas due to our current gallopers coming up lame.

Who's realistically out there that's available and secondly, could actually make an impact in our team?

Don't know if he's available but there's this guy that goes alright called Digby. A French fella I think? ;-)
Kidding of course! Don't we have someone in the EPS or running around in clubland that we can bring in?
If we're looking to use our import slot I would seriously prefer that they go after a Jacques Pottgeiter style player to give our pack some go forward.
