Id give the guys a chance. The coaches have obviously seen something. Have faith the boys will do fine.

It's a long season & the Force have been shafted with the early season travel, Melbourne, Saffa tour & then play the Reds in Brisbane after the bye before they finally play at home in round 6 is a very shit start to the season. I think Foley will be looking at the Southern kings in round 2 as a must win so resting Hodgson & MMM doesn't seem a bad idea.

Definitely weird that Cummins has been cleared to play the curtain raiser.

Keep in mind Stanley played 12 for you last year, when he is really a 13. I wouldn't be too quick to write that bloke off, his pedigree is too good. Being a former NZ schools captain, and nominee for U20 international player of the year. Who knows, maybe he peaked early?

The Force draw was partially their own making with NIB Stadium not ready. Ideally not a great way to start the season but if we can pick up a few wins we have a string of home games to hopefully make a charge....hopefully.

Very worried about this team. This wqs the starting backline from last week against tonga and they didnt set the world on fire. Just cant see how ctm doesnt even get a spot im the 22 on last weeks form. Before seeing the team i said force by 15 now im very beey worried about what could happen.

Gaffa....can always bring on Sias for Christie and Junior has looked good in the trials. Come on Force.....cant wait for the game.

He's only allowed to play if there's an injury to any of the backs in the squad...

Also, if SNK hasn't landed yet that might be another reason...

Special dispensation for SNK, you'd have to think ... or is it hope?

Fuck. Seriously...Fuck.

That is an uninspiring lineup. With Hodgo, MMM and HB out we look decidedly pedestrian. How did Stanley hold his spot from last season? He never showed anything special and guys like Rasolea and CTM deserve the chance to show what they have.

Welcome to coach Michael Foley and very conservative team selection!

Nah, they haven't been shafted. The Force requested all away matches at the start while the stadium in Perth is being upgraded.

I agree that the selections for this first match are concerning, however. Guys with niggles sitting out is understandable but having neither CTM or Hayward in the 22 seems a bit odd based on the apparent trial form.

Anyway, Foley has given Godwin and Stanley their chances. Maybe they'll really run with it.

Well that's not the force team I expected at all, I'm not familiar with a lot of those names. It think it worries me more that there are unknown qualities on the field as opposed the usual dangerous suspects at the force, even a new joiner like MMM you know what he was going to bring to the game. I do wonder if this is the reason the odds blew out a bit in the last day or so though?

I still think the rebs will win (of course) but it will be a lot closer than the blow out some are predicting.

Cummins is playing in the curtain raiser after being injured during training while MMM was injured in the last trial. More here

All I can say is that the team is a bit of a surprise to me. Happy not seeing Ma'fu but that was nothing like the back line that I expected to see running out. Looking at the team you would think that Brown will have to do something outstanding in the first few games to hold his place in the 22 once Hodgson returns.

Congratulations to Cowan for getting the (c)

No manu or CTM? very strange. Indeed the backline looks a bit strange. with the players in that 22 i would have selected rasolea over dellit and Ebersohn over christie but maybe the coache shave seen somethign i have not.

In regards to Godwin at 12 i honestly do not have that much problem with it, however i would have selected a stronger 13 outside of him to help contain and avert the possibility of being overpowered by tthe rebels sizeable midfield.

I think the right idea is there in the type of players selected (i.e ball playing 12/ball running 13), i just think there is better players in the squad to fill these positions. However after tonight we shall all see.

But just in case everythign falls to shit i have included a hashtag for everyones copy and pasting convenience..

You are in for a long season if you are looking for ball players at 12 in a Foley coached team.
Unless you have a dynamic back three who will run the footie back, you will not see a back line movement as you understand it.
Look for supporting players to be flat footed, waiting for the ball carrier to be tackled, for another phase.Stats will look good with great ball retention and plenty of 7+ phases. But no slick back line moves except in the warm up or at training.

I don't think Foley will be wanting to replicate anything of the Tahs playing style with the Force. The coaching structure with Steve Meehan onboard is geared towards a more attacking mindset.

No bold predictions here. Both teams will be desperate to get a first up win to kickstart the year. How the win comes is secondary; ugly, expansive, running, entertaining, who cares how.

Rebels to win by 8, at home, against a depleted Force team.

He can't change his personality.Put him under a bit of pressure and he will go back to what he is comfortable with.Unfortunately

although i enjoy your indepth analysis of the mans character and temperament he had one season in a team that had Berrick Barnes, Rob Horne, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and tom carter in it..........soo i am willing to cut him some slack for not fielding a warratah gameplan that was oozing flair and creativity.

the most exciting player in waratahs was TPN and only because i like the look of his afro........

EDIT: and realistically with the forward pack the waratahs had it made sense to play a forward orientated game......8 wallabies forwwards - 3 wallabies backs......do the math

Force took a punt on a average coach and got a average side for round one.

The Force will match up well in the forwards and you may get a surprise out of a few of the new players.

Yeah it might have made sense, but he spent all of last year denying he was doing that.
Let's see what you think after 5 or 6 losses on the trot and he is still spruiking that things are going great.
Anyway, I am tipping the Rebels by 10 tonight, only because their timing will be out a little and they will leave a few points out there.
