Personally I think it will strengthen us. For some reason Coetzee cant get it that you need a loose trio as a combo with different type of players. Since the start of the season he picked the same old same 6-8. This will bring in Carr and just maybe Fourie on the flank and will make a massive differense providing turn overs and quick ball from the rucks. The Stormers will be desperate and hungry, bonus point win for the good guys. Stormers by 15+.

I am praying every week that he use Fourie at his best position that is on the flank. He is not a hooker. Play Scarra there. Why is he so afraid to give Scarra a go? WHat does he have to loose?

Carr is a very busy player, pretty much the Schalk type. Myself is sure our attack will so much better from quick ball and turn overs. Thats where the likes of JdJ and Aplon is dangerous.

Rohan Kitshoff, the Namibian flanker is also back in the Cape. Would love to see him in the Stormers jersey.

Fourie was brilliant coming on last year in Super Rugby games as well. The Habana try vs the Bulls came from him turning it over. He adjust to the laws very quickly and got great timing and is like a terrier on a loose ball. Best ball chaser in the country at the moment being wasted at 2.

Kolisi is a big ball carrier. Him Vermeulen, Bekker and Etzebeth are the bruising ball carriers and suppose to clear the rucks. But Kolisi if he is not carrying he goes and stand in the back line. Which makes it difficult for the 9's Groom and Duvenhage as its hard to attack from there when the ball is slow and when the outside backs are on coming forwards

Well for me Kolisi and Duanne are probably your best defenders around the fringes. They always take the opposition back. Three of the same type of players is just to many, you need the likes of Carr and Fourie to mix it up. Pretty sure he'll go again with Kolisi/Carr/Armand again.

The problem is defending is one thing but your attack and defense must be linked. You need to balance the risk of not winning the ruck against having a defensive wall to force the attacking team to "make" the plays there is where a guy like Fourie comes in.

If you are going to turn your defense into attack quickly and the try scoring trends suggest you should because >45% of tries come from defensive platforms then your defense needs an attacking balance when the opposition kicks you the ball or you turn it over in the tackle/they drop it etc etc

You need to quickly be in a position to attack whilst the other team is disorganized. Hence, the ability of your back 3 to recover quickly and be a part of your fast counter attacks is importantl. To be effective with this you need your quickest men in the best ball carrying positions eg where there is space or a mismatch. I coach eleven year old kids who understand this and apply it. Surely 15 grown men who are professionals can do it?

Burger has left a big hole as he was responsible for the quickball, securing it as well as that balance and linking the defense to the attack.

ps i think the stirzaker thing is good, just a little overdue and possibly not the easiest game to start; rookie 10, in the wet, BIG expectation and against stormers. what could possibly go wrong

I think we should dampen our expectations for the two of them and file this match in the 'long term development' category.

Who knows, Hegarty showed a cool head last week when thrown in the deep end and put in a reasonable performance. If the piggies get a rumble on and deliver quick ball anything can happen.

if we play to our strategy, our defense holds up and we keep getting the ball away from their forwards, we are a chance. they were the same team last year and we nearly beat them after all.

it will be tough for our backs though. defense will be very very key (as if it ever is not)

Pretty happy with the Stormers team, finally Coetzee saw the light. Not sure about Schreuder/Cilliers starting, maybe a good thing to have Groome/Malherbe on the bench and maybe rotation politics. Anyway a MUST win 5 pointer for the Stormers. If they drop this one, it will be a tragedy for SA Rugby.
