Melbourne - The Cheetahs are waiting on news of prop Coenie Oosthuizen as they prepare to name their side to face the Melbourne Rebels this weekend.
Oosthuizen has a foot injury and coach Naka Drotske has said he will give the burly prop as much time as he needs to regain his fitness to try and face the Rebels with a fully-fit squad in a game the Cheetahs desperately want to win.
The team will welcome back Andries Strauss from a two week suspension for his tip-tackle on Wikus van Heerden in round one, giving them an automatic boost after the disappointment of losing in the last minute against the Brumbies.
While there is still some unhappiness at the way the game swung against them, and now news that SANZAR will investigate the spate of scrum penalties that went against the Cheetahs from referee Keith Brown, the Bloemfontein side need to put it behind them as they try and get a positive result from their tour.
“We need to move on,” Drotske said, “Despite our disappointment we need to pick ourselves up and face the next challenge. Hopefully if Coenie can recover from his injury, we will have a 100% fit squad.
We’re also very happy to have Andries Strauss back, he is one of our leaders and a senior player in the line-up, so his experience will be invaluable.”
Other than these two injuries, the Cheetahs will not be making drastic changes to their line-up for the Rebels, but they will be wishing for some luck in the game.
“I hope our luck turns, it will be great to win a game in the last minute for a change, but hopefully we can rectify the situation ourselves. The Rebels were good against the Reds, and they are certainly a better team than they were two weeks ago, so we will have to be playing well.”
Cheetahs by 20.

Looking forward to this game - should be a cracker! The Rebels will have to show up but I still think it's theirs to lose. The more time the new recruits and the new combinations have together the better they'll get. I can see the Rebels taking out third in the AUS conference this year - barring serious injuries! Saffy & Delve are machines and Inman is also going really well. Will be good to see Weeks back where he was when he left the Reds, and Rodzilla has been a decent sub!

Just on a side note - with the Rebels at 11 straight loses, and the Lions losing all their games in 2010. Which team has lost the most consecutive games?

Apologies Brisbok - guess I should have made my question simpler:

Go on, do it. You know you want to.
Cipriani has been playing good enough to keep the 10 spot at the moment, also why would you move the world's best 15 away from the 15 shirt?

Bulls had a few long losing streaks back in the late 90s / early 2000s too, including one infamous game against the Crusaders where, weeks prior to the game, betting agencies simply refused to take bets on the game.

Simpler really has nothing to do with it. 2010 was the Super 14. In the Super 14, all teams played each other once. Ergo, there were 13 games that the Lions played in 2010. If they went without a victory then.... dun dun dun... 13 > 11.

Edit: not to mention they didn't break the drought until round 4 of 2011 and lost the last round of 2009. Which takes us to a grand total of 17 in their losing streak.

Beales counter attacking brilliance from the back has been somewhat nullified by teams getting smarter and not kicking him the ball so much. I would like to see him bought in for more oppourtunities at the 12 channel. And you are lucky enough to have another world class 15 sitting on the bench. Different skill set, but still a brilliant 15.

Cipriani is still a turnstyle in defence. O'Connor is the opposite, one of the best tackling small men in the game. Free the backrow up from baby sitting Cipriani to menace the breakdown and give a young Aussie the oppourtunity to nail down the playmaker role. Gives O'Connor the oppourtunity to develop his field position kicking too.
