Rebels 2023

If it is Rangi it is hardly a major signing, I like him as a player and he was good when he was with us before.
However, you would think he would only be third string behind Jordon and Mafi (if Mafi has actually signed).
The front row is also the area we least need to strengthen at the minute.
The row is pretty strong with good depth but boy do we still look weak in the fairies.

on last nights broadcast of Stans coverage of QPR game Easts vs Souths they made mention Brad Wilkin will be playing for Easts in the coming weeks.

that’s a massive score for qpr rugby and Easts - I had no idea he did his schooling up here in QLD.

Came through Iona College, a strong rugby school but hasn't produced a whole bunch of elite players in recent years. Also part of the AIC comp, so the GPS elite usually turn their noses up!

I'd say their most prominent old boy is Jared Warea-Hargreaves who plays front row for Sydney Roosters and Kiwi League side. I believe he played Aussie school boys rugby back in 2006, but was nabbed by the NRL straight away, he was a very handy number 8.

Anyway, that's some useless history for the day.

Rangi is also no spring chicken in the pro Rugby world. He’ll be turning 34 in October. Can’t be too many more Super Rugby years in front of him.

If it is him. It might be just a retirement decision, where he wants to move back to Melb to settle down and happy to accept a lowball offer for 12months during the transition.

Just in reference to JWH he actually played rugby out of school, I assume in Sydney because he played in the first version of the NRC - the ARC.

Underwhelming, good depth option but with Jordy and Mafi he wouldn’t get a game. Was a heart and soul player when he was here but they built it up like it was a big recruit

Ah interesting, I didn't know that.

I know he was signed with the Manly Sea Eagles out of school, must have been a few months later. They trained near the Waratahs setup, he ended up making friends with a bunch of those guys and nearly signed with the Tahs in 2010 with an eye on 2011 RWC to my knowledge, but ended up staying in league and going to the Roosters.

I am sure the Rebels guys are loving us high jacking this thread with 2006 era ex-rugby player chat!
