Rebels 2021

Rebel man

John Thornett (49)
I'm gonna go buy some more Rebels merch now, gotta show some support.
That’s the problem a lot of people in Melbourne who were more casual fans would of been looking at coming to the round 3 game to show their support and for most it will be put in the too hard basket now

Yeah it’s not great especially with all the great publicity at the Aus Open and on 9.

Exactly. You need to get people in early in the season before the market is flooded with rival offerings. I love the Rebels and have two memberships but now our first game is on the same night as Collingwood’s first game I am also a Collingwood member. The eyes of Melbourne will be so firmly on the Collingwood v Bulldogs game the Rebels will be forgotten. The club had to stand firm and not give up the home game

Well congratulations on getting as many home games last year as we did.

After last year, you'd think a decent bloke would have some empathy for other rugby supporters in the same boat. I s'pose it's easier to just go onto another team's page and shit post.

Fuck off.

the point was the Force had to travel a dam sight further than the rebels, anyway a pleasant evening to you too ,sir

Or we could of kept it in round three. Ultimately if border shut downs prevent the force from hosting that is their problem and we shouldn’t be the ones losing out

I'm not saying you're wrong or that the Rebels don't have things stacked against them atm, but aren't you being a little 'cut your nose off to spite your face' about it all?

If Round 3 was to be retained as originally planned, and that meant the Rebels couldn't go to Perth the following week, and the game is canceled, how is that a better outcome than the situation now where the Rebels get to play both games?

Just like last year if a side was prevented from then it should be at an alternate venue. This is pathetic by Rugby Aus puts us at a massive disadvantage over all the other sides.

Rebel man I too am a Collingwood member. In the past I have gone to a Rebels match and then walked across the bridge for last quarter of a Pies game. I was just thinking about how I would do that in a COVID-19 world.

This year and last year have been COVID-19 impacted. But in a normal year, the Rebels should not be having a bye in first three rounds. We should also have two of our first three games at home to get home games and interest of sports fans before AFL and Storm start.

The thing is having the bye and the away game is down to Rugby Australia and their poor management of the comp. That’s why it’s so frustrating

Is it possible the Rebels actually asked to start with a bye and an away match to give more time to ensure home games later? As it was, if we had a match at home in round 1 we may have almost missed out!

^^^Doubt it,

Rebels have started the season with a bye several times, it always has a negative effect. Playing fresh against a team with a competitive game behind them is never good.

The Grey Man

So we’re looking at a team something like?

15 Reece Hodge
14 Marika Koroibete
13 Tom Pincus
12 Matt To'omua
11 Young Tonumaipea
10 Carter Gordon
9 Joe Powell
8 Michael Wells
7 Brad Wilkin
6 Josh Kemeny
5 Trevor Hosea
4 Ignacio Calas
3 Lucio Sordoni
2 Jordan Uelese
1 Cabous Eloff

16 Ed Craig
17 Rhys van Nek
18 Pone Fa’amausili
19 Steve Cummins
20 Rob Leota
21 Frank Lomani
22 Lewis Holland
23 Glen Vaihau

Albert Anae has been brought into the squad too.

You won't be disappointed by Ed Craig. Eastwood's loss is your gain. He and Jordon were the Australian U20's Hookers, back in the day. Don't know how the Waratahs have let him slip through their fingers, twice....

Perhaps because he is a product of a Public School education, without the necessary Eastern Suburbs and North Shore rugby connections that a GPS education brings.

Bit of a catch 22 for me this week - I was meant to be heading down to Melbourne today for the first time in twelve months, but have had to cancel the trip as the QLD Govt still yet to confirm when borders open to Vic. Just couldn't justify flying out and not being sure I could return without hotel quarantine.

The flip side? I now get to go to the Rebels game on Friday!

Fuck me, the bellyaching in here is some of the worst I've seen in my time, almost up there with the awful vibes around when the Force got boned.

Yeah it's a shit deal but get it off your chest and move on. This forum isn't a personal bitch and whinge grievance airing platform.
