Rebels 2021

The Reds & Brumbies showed they can (and did) adapt to it. If you're only trying to grind penalties it can be fairly easily delt with but being disciplined, and that's even easier if you know they aren't going to threaten your line integrity. That's why it's so important to attack the line and look to score tries. You can catch teams off guard briefly maybe one or two games, but it won't last long term unless you are at let threatening the line.

I'm all for money ball, take the 3, but you've gotta do both. The Reds are currently the perfect example of that, they look to attack when they attack, but when the 3 is on offer they take it. Point is you can't play just one way.

Are you even reading what they are saying? They had a clear game plan based on 3s (which Australian sides are notoriously susceptible to) and it looked like it might pay dividends. Then they, in theory, listened to blokes like you and deviated.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

100% The current Brumbies team is around 5/6years into a team built from Jake White based on 2/3 years of pragmatism. The current Reds team upskilled quicker but still had 1-1.5years of forward play. Both built extremely solid foundations to build the game on from. The Rebels were fairly pragmatic last season and for a couple of games last year. So about 10 games in total into what should be a 20-30 game foundation before building into something more.

No, you fucken don't. You can work your way into their half, grind out a penalty and win a match by repeating.

Sure it's balls and horrible to watch but it works fine. Particularly if you also have exceptional discipline and defense, which generally require more cohesion but less natural talent.

Yeah yeah, Reds are great at attacking. We get it. Don't see the relevance to this conversation.

Gordon brothers, Skelton and Vudoga all playing for West’s in the QPR

thats 3 how about Craig, Aedo Kailea, Cummins, Nowlan, Canham & then why not bring Cam Orr back through 40 min of club footy, if Willkin or Isi dont play one of them play. Geez even give them a run in the Dewar Shield.

Yeah I think maybe you go hard trying to beat the Brumbies (I feel like that's unlikely) but it is crazy they've done basically no player development. Key example Cater Gordon should have gotten at least on the bench a few games, why poach him away from the Reds if you don't want to try to play him. But the same goes for a whole bunch of other players (yet the Rebs are constantly signing young players).

As been stated many times Wessels is off contract & finishing 4th spells the end, he is not going to play a 20yo 10 no matter how many Rebels fans ask for it or how many blokes that have seen him come through qld rugby suggest it.

I'm all for players getting an opportunity to play either Dewar Shield or to telegraph into another competition interstate rather than just train, but let's just remember that (a) Shute Shield & Hospital Cup literally started last weekend, so it's not like they missed weeks and weeks and (b) Melbourne was in lockdown for a hell of a lot of last year.

The Reds fans' Carter Gordon rhetoric is ridiculous. When you have To'omua & Hodge, you don't need a third 10 on the bench for the sake of it if he's not ready for Super Rugby. Yes, your team has won more matches, but nobody is complaining that Mac Grealy hasn't played yet, are they? Just because he has moved interstate, doesn't mean he has moved interstate expecting to play Super Rugby straight away. If he was at the Reds this year, he wouldn't have had a run...

Ummm, except O'Connor is killing it at 10 and actually most Reds fans would really love to see a flyhalf of the future... Except the time table for that got pushed back with Gordon going to the Rebs, so probably next year, hopefully. (Also never mind all the other young players The Reds have brought through.) The Rebels with Tommua at 10 have the single most impotent attack in Australia (maybe the Waratahs are worse?). And the Reds didn't bring in someone who was basically ready to go.The bigger point about the situation is the Rebels bringing in Carter Gordon and then not even having him on the bench just once. To'omua not being a very good flyhalf is just a secondary point.

Actually scored the same amount of try’s as the Force and overall 30 points more if you count kicks. Tahs have actually scored more try’s than Force and Rebels. For a team that’s fourth on talent coming third, it isn’t that bad. Not great but not shocking, last week was the only inexcusable performance. Wessels isn’t a world beater of a coach but he hasn’t been that bad, most comments on here are internet hyperbole. Third would be another solid performance this year when you consider man for man Rebs vs Reds or Brums that not many are making the select 15 on form or talent.

Add a number of high profile players haven’t played a minute this year it’s been expected where they are at.

I Just because he has moved interstate, doesn't mean he has moved interstate expecting to play Super Rugby straight away.

I guess this is the interesting bit for me. As far as I understood he moved specifically because he wanted to play and didn’t want to be stuck behind O’Connor.

I won’t comment on the merit (or not) of selecting him - but if that is true you’d imagine that he personally is not happy with how the season has panned out.

Orr and Wilkins will probably be the ones dropped off the extended bench.

Players only get released when they know they will have absolutely no involvement on game day.

There will be several players, in addition to Orr and Wilkins who will be heavily involved in the game day processes, both in warming up and acting as injury reserves prior to the game.

They will warm up almost an entire extra bench just in case. It's absolutely not a matter of - if they are not in the 23 on the day then they should be playing club.

I'm thinking in addition to the 4 names (gordon 1, gordon 2, skelton and vudogo,) probably 2 out of Cummins, Canham and Nowlan should be playing somewhere from the forwards, assuming all 3 are fit and healthy

May look worse if O'Connor doesn't re-sign for next season.
