Rebels 2020

He won't move half way around the world to play behind Gordon, not would Gordon stick around if he was playing second fiddle.

But I agree with your point, it makes us look a little greedy. It has to be more than jsut money that is attracting players down to Melbourne.
By all accounts it's a pretty good lifestyle down there.

Certainly wouldn't be hard to top Canberra.

Oh FFS get over yourselves. It was a feeble attempt at humour.

Ease up mate, it was also a bit of humour.

I'd like to see Goddard getting minutes, regardless of what Genia is doing. Got to avoid the Mack Mason situation

Cold facts - Genia is 31 and on the end of his career, naturally he wants a long contract but I can completely see why RA would rather invest in the next generation of Halves, of course we'd love to keep him but, in terms of succession, it's better to invest in youth and give Goddard more game time

and i think that needs to be done next year, not in 3 years time....these guys coming through need all the minutes they can get for the following world cup campaign

I’m struggling to think of who realistically we could bring in.

Ruru I don’t think is the answer, he’s a solid back up.

Goddard has talent, but it’d be nice if he moved to the bench spot.

Tuttle? Sorovi? Are they any better than Goddard, who knows?

Lucas has just signed on again with the Brums, but I don’t think he’s any better than Ruru.

Beyond Gordon it appears the Tahs haven’t got much.

There is almost no Aus player overseas any better than solid player available.

I’d actually be interested in Frank Lomani for a season, if we are getting White. He’s been involved with the club before.

Switch it up between Goddard and Ruru, you dont need a superstar as half when you have a team like that surrounding them. Start Goddard and if he starts sinking switch with Ruru and then gradually ease Goddard back into the starting role via the bench

He sounds like a bit of a jet. I'd prefer a Wallaby eligible player but maybe that's just the effect of another dying season and the gold mist descending over my eyes

Michael McDonald fro the Aust 20s is worth consideration. Assume Wessels have had some experience with him from the west

He looks promising...just not sure the rebs should be sticking their fingers in the W.A rugby pie again just yet.
It used to my favourite away game and I hope to do it again one day. If we bleed them anymore I’m not sure the poor buggers will ever welcome us back!
I don’t mind the idea of Tuttle to add to the competition with Goddard/Ruru. He seems on the outer up at the reds and if Mcdermott continues on his current course ain’t getting near the 9 jersey.

good point. Tuttle would be a good shout. I rate him highly and I agree he wouldn't get much shout up here. I'd prefer him and McDermott stayed and Sorovi goes elsewhere but Moses is the only one signed next year.

Either/or would be welcome here if Genia goes.
Reds could pick up McDonald? and have the young fellas go at it... brumbies look covered for next year imo, not sure who the tahs have got other than Gordon? Don’t really care either
Simples.

Tom English off to Japan at the end of 2019.

Bummer. Happy for Tom to get / take the opportunity but he is closing in on 100 Super Rugby games and if he had have stayed he would have more than likely become the first player with 100 games for the Rebels (likely to be Luke Jones now).

Rebelsfan you are right Tom is a nice guy. He is also an underrated player, he is a consistent, solid player who you know what you are going to get. You can build a side around someone like that.

I spoke to Tom after an NRC game last season and thought he might leave prior to this year. He said he would love to stay but had to weigh up his options as to where he was more likely to get a game. Maybe with To'omua in squad now he has thought next year he is less likely to get a game.

As has been reported everywhere, McMahon left because he knew his body would not hold out and he wanted to make as much cash as possible in an easier league.

Gill was never has good as Hooper and Pocock and left years before Hooper's contract.

Colby?
Hmmm .... I thought It was widely reported that McMahon left largely because the Wallabies staff & Cheika in particular showed such little regard for his personal well being and exacerbated an injury through encouraging him to play when he should have been given time off.

It was certainly reported that while Cheika was a fan of McMahons the feeling wasn’t/isn’t mutual and McMahon hasn’t been at all receptive to approaches to structure a contract to make himself available.
I've never seen a single article reporting any of this. If you have one, post it. Otherwise i'm almost certain it's not the case.

Fair enough. Certainly I will acknowledge anything I think/know is based entirely on what I have heard/read - I have no first hand knowledge of this, and, from a quick search this morning I also acknowledge both that I can’t see a specific article supporting my comment and that the commentary from general posters that I found is opaque. So happy for you and others to disregard my comment.

I’ve edited my post as the second part of it, even if true, doesn’t really need to be speculated on here (of course it is still visible unless you also edit yours).

But I did definitely read the info a number of times. I will spend a bit more time this evening looking for a credible source.

from memory, it wasn't Cheika that pushed him is was the rebels coach Tony Mcgahan - but otherwise, that was what I heard too.

re McMahon - the Rebels management, McMahon and his manager were furious with the Wallabies management/medical personnel for playing him on his injured ankle during the EOYT. i was told by someone within the Rebels set up that it was largely Cheika pushing him to play. so whether thats hearsay or not ? However, McMahon did publicly state that his body was on limited time, so he chose to stop playing Super Rugby/test rugby.
