With the Rebels so far over the salary cap, and supposedly needing to comply with it from next year, I don't think they can afford him either without some concessions........... although they're in dire need of a flyhalf (but really, who isn't?).

I would imagine quite a few one year signings heading off at the end of the year.

Reds couldn't afford with Cooper and Hunt not prepared to go anywhere else and still get paid.

Waratahs have Foley, Beale and Folau to re-sign so not much room there.

An important factor here is that Melbourne has 2 Women's BBL teams that could do with a marquee signing.

And there's a big motivator, right there. His spare rib would make a handy acquisition for any of those two teams.

Can't see it being a loan. In order to be Wallaby eligible, He HAS to sign an OZ Super Rugby/WSR contract for two years.

Out of interest, is he playing more 10 or 12 at the Tigers? It may give more insight into why Cheika is chasing To'omua.

Well at least Tigers will be getting some big bucks to release him.
Plays more at 12, looked good at 10 though.

There was a rumour on here about him potentially signing a contract for someone after his Tigers one runs out (so the 2021 super rugby season) and cheika trying to use that.

There is a concession for marquee players brought home from OS so they probably won't have a salary cap issue with To'omua. There may still be others

To'omua has played more 10 then 12.. He was always a 10 till someone thought hed be a good 12 as his tough as tek. But I feel he drives the defence line better at 10.

Slim do we know that for a fact. Baden Stephenson has repeatedly said they are not.

Already gone or going from this years list are Horwitz, Hutchinson, Fou, Timani, Parling, Stirzaker, McGregor, Mafi, Fainga'a. Edit: forgot Lance and Hanson too.The only confirmed in as far as i know is Naisarani.

To'omua would be great at 10. so would Adams he he is given a go. Unfortunately i think JD is never going to make the transition to a top line Super flyhalf.

Has he actually said that?

I found a quote by him saying that their wage bill was "is not exorbitant" but doesn't actually stat whether or not they're within the cap.

There were reports that the Rebels were estimated to be $700,000 over the cap prior to signing Adam Coleman.

Yes i think he has or words to the effect that they are compliant - possibly weasel words and pertaining only to this year where no cap exists. i don't have any first hand information about the wages bill at the Rebels

If To'omua comes in, I expect it's at 10. However, he showed he could play there for the Brumbies and still play 12 for the Wallabies, and it does mean we can have confidence in him covering 10 if Foley goes down.

Also I can't believe you could be getting To'omua. If only we didn't give him the bloody optional 1yr get-out clause.

Have heard this numerous times, specifically on these threads. But who are they paying to be over the cap???? Honestly look at the squads line them up against each other and ask yourself how they are spending over the cap. To me it looks like all teams are roughly spending the same, minus the Tahs who obviously have more Wallabies on big top ups.

I personally believe its just a rumored beat up that has never been substantiated in public.

Rebels are paying top dollar for Coleman, Genia, Koroibete, DHP and Mafi, the rest of the team would be on fairly average super wages. There has been an illusion create that the likes of Naivalu, Phillip, Ruru, Uelese, etc are on good dollars, yet most of them are still on their first or second professional contract.

Genia, Koro and Mafi and probably not counted under the salary cap as well under the various marquee player exemptions. (Can you have more than one marquee player?)

Not one person who has said we are over the cap has bothered to point out how?

Its all hearsay

It's also interesting to see the only ones saying it are Brums supporters

Even comparing the two squads it's so similar

The Brums front row is dramatically more expensive than the Rebels on paper, Sio and AAT would both be earning more than any Rebs player (Result Brums)

Hooking - The rebels only have 2 on their books, the Brums 3. Although Uelese is prob on more than the others (even)

Locks - Coleman would be the most expensive, but then Arnold and Carter would be earning more than Parling and Phillip. Both teams have excess numbers of experienced pros (Result Rebs)

Back row - Pocock easily the most expensive. Naisarani and McCaffrey prob earning similar to Timani and Fainga'a. Mafi would be the Rebs highest earner. Timani and Mafi both gone next year (Result Brums)

Scrum Half - Easily Genia although Powell's recent top up would show hes worth something (Result Rebs)

Fly Half - Not even a contest. CLL still on an ARU top up (result Brums)

Centre - Kurindrani earning the most, Hodge prob second most, Godwin third, Meakes and English etc. (Result Brums)

Wings - Koroibete easily the most, Speight the only other on an ARU top up. (Result Rebs)

Fullback - DHP easily the most (Rebs)

So in simple terms, Brums spending more in 4 areas, Rebs spending more in 4.

It was generally understood, that Lance was moved on and things were compliant. Esp with Stirzacker, Hanson etc getting their contracts picked up elsewhere.

Since then Parling is leaving, Mafi is leaving, Hutchinson is leaving, Timani is leaving.

That's $1mil worth of talent

Look if the Rebels want To'omua they will make the cap space.. its all the 1 year deals they probably did.

Now if that means they drop the rot of there team to get him they would. Wish he would come home.

And if To'omua wants to come home there be some sweet ARU cap dodgy deal for any team who he wants to go to.

Genia To'omua would be pretty sweet to see, no one has ever tried it.
