Yer sorta right Slim. I thoroughly enjoy visiting Melbourne, I've gone down there to watch my beloved Tahs six out of the last eight years. And the Rebels crew are a fine bunch of blokes to have a beer with. THEN, some local gets into my ear about what AFL team I support. My reply, "I get my footy teams from the internet: www, ie, West Harbour, Waratahs, Wallabies", quite confuses them. The utter pervasiveness of AFL over every aspect of life in Melbourne's a major turnoff for me.

And that comes from one born and brought up in southern New South Wales playing Aussie Rules as my first football code.

I moved from Sydney to Melbourne 18 years ago and I’ve been asked what AFL team I support about 3 times. AFL is a big part of Melbourne, but it’s not over everything else.

You probably do get nagged about footy in Melbourne if your experience of Melbourne is a pub on Swan St or the Casino on a Friday/Saturday night in winter. Go to Fitzroy at the same time and the conversations are a bit different haha.

Matt To'omua's passion is coffee and he's young/well paid. He'll enjoy Melbourne just fine.

Time to put the coffee argument to bed for good. Check out the world awards that Ona Coffee in Canberra has received over the past four or five years. Best coffee is here.

We’ve got plenty of talent to develop in NRC, and he could do with a season of top league. Back in time to get married and get a starting lock berth.

These kind of argument are so Canberra/Brisbane.

Its coffee "culture" not legitimate competition. Coffee beans, like wine, or anything else are very subjective.

Acidity, origin, extraction blah blah.

Its not a legitimate competion.

Tasmania has won best whiskey in the world a few years running. Is it a better whiskey (scotch) region than Scotland?

talking to someone who knows QC (Quade Cooper) very well recently. He is very happy playing for Souths, he has a contract with the Reds and his intention is to stay in Qld, until either the contract is bought out / paid to him in full or expires. The extended break from Super/Test rugby will do his body a lot of good and will extend his club career several years i would have thought. smart move if you ask me. i'd love to see him in Melbourne but i think it is very unlikely.
2 years playing club rugby - what a waste but great I guess for Souths

Melbourne has started winning world awards for their whisky as well.

BS, you might argue the value of comparing coffees and wines etc, but most definitely whiskey is not a Scottish thing. But just for the record, Irish whiskey has it all over Scottish whisky any day of the week.

Irish whiskey's triple-distilled resulting in a smoother taste sensation. Scottish whisky is distilled twice (apart from two: Auchentoshan's one, can't remember the other), leaving it with that touch of fire some people like, others don't. One Tasmanian whisky (NEVER "whiskey", BS ) is triple-disitlled, Mackay. Almost impossible to get your hands on any. Read here: www.shene.com.au

Hazelburn is triple distilled, running out of the Springbank distillery.

Spot on Bobby Sands. Honestly, there's a lot of good coffee places across most of Australia. I've been to a few one horse towns lately with a trendy coffee shop.

Melbourne is just the 2nd biggest city and has that kind of a 'vibe'. Let's face it, most coffee places are judged off the quality of food and the hipster ambiance as much as they are coffee.

As an aside, I'm quite partial to a Japanese whisky.
