May 2015 Rebels defeat Blues at home

This year we play them away - haven't won a game in NZ since - wait, 2015
prediction: it is possible coming off a win v the Sunwolves at AAMI with confidence high and no injuries, it is certainly possible

You could, but I think it just makes those teams deeper not better. Deepness is its own benefit I guess.

Rubbish. The starting locks for the Rebels will be Coleman and Parling or Philip. Last year was Douglas and Cummins. I'm pretty sure that is a major improvement.

I obviously said teams, not team. Personally I wouldn't be stoked in the Rebels lost 50% more games then they won, which is exactly what the Force did in 2017 (the better of the two 'teams').

I’d expect that the Rebels will be materially better than either the Force or the Rebels were last year. The Brumbies slightly better (with Pocock), the Waratahs similar and the Reds either brilliant under the new coach (or more likely) a complete disaster with inexperienced 10s. Pass mark for the Rebels has to be at least 8 games.

Both the Brumbies and the Rebels have no excuses. We have a truckload of talent, most of them an upgrade on what we had and depth most teams would envy. The Brumbies also have no excuse, a lot of cohesion combined with dramatic upgrades in certain areas with Pocock, Naisarani, CLL and depth through the emergence of a few young players plus the Arnold twins reuniting. The Tahs will be interesting, on paper they are better with Beale been on the field, Dempsey actually available for more than 2 games, a lock that can win line out ball (Simmons, although i dont rate him at all) and if they sign either McCalman or Rona (perhaps both) then they will have an extremely good first 15, although depth is a massive massive issue. Reds are young but will be extremely physical with some of the 'deadwood' been cleared out, i wont expect much from them, but their squad is built for modern day rugby. No more locks that offer nothing around the field, no more props that simply hold the scrum up, hookers that do the basics, etc...

Cheer up. This is the not-rugby season, the time of year for wild optimism and outrageous predictions. We can deal with the cruel realities of life as a Rebels supporter next year.

I'll be happy if we either, win all of our home games, half our away games and pick up eight bonus points or, beat the 'Tahs twice ;)

Well, I had high expectations this year and then the preseason games deadened them somewhat. Still managed to get disappointed.

Squad we select for that will be interesting. 25 Blokes getting a chance, is it youth, is it to win, is it a few blokes Wessells doesn't know getting a chance, or is it a mix of everything.

While it’s a different format they will be treating it as trial games, but I hope they are going in to win it. Went this year and despite nearly melting in the heat, it was a lot of fun. The new day / night format should help with the heat next year.

i suspect it will be where they are "at". one would think that by the last trial, Wessels will have his opening 23 pretty much penned in, so you'd assume that the 25 (plus) taken will be the basis of Rebels round one. he may still be deciding on whether someone is in the 15 or on the bench or bench versus out. winning the 10's would be a big boost, but walloping the Reds at home the following week will be better.
