Any and all of:

Young
Little senior rugby experience
Unfit as fuck
White line fever
Talentless hack
No man management skills
Scared
Abuses refs far too often
Frustration when they can't switch to NH/Wet Weather footy when necessary/desirable

Will do.

Coaches don't need to be fit.

Play then? Alternatively, Victoria lacks decent managers.

At the moment things don't work outside supporting and match day volunteering. I plan to play again, or at least try to, but life is probably going to get in the way in the near future.

Online stuff is much easier. Watch highlights, watch games, read multiple forums and news sites, most of which can be done alongside other activities as long as there's internet and either my eyes or ears can devote a little timea to it.

The thing often not talked about - any or all of these blokes could've been difficult customers off the field and that's why they were cut.

I agree with PAE, I think Veinu and Pyle are a stretch. Could've gone far, but still not the 'likely' outcome.

On another note - BH are looking for coaches and you seem to know your footy Highlander35. Why not you?

From what I hear look like Darren Rutene was enjoying his time as a first grade A/Coach. Perhaps a senior Coach role for him in the future.

Where do you fit into the local scene, Amirite?

We always need writers on GAGR. Let's talk :)

I'd love to play again, but sadly the tumble I took at the semi-final will put an end to the that. I'll never know the joy of playing for the BH quenchies.

TBH mate - I like to keep my name off the forum. Nothing professional or particularly impressive though, I just don't want to have to worry about being candid. That being said, I like to try not to be a dickhead either. ;)

If Darren is the guy who I think he is (ex-Axeman), he has work commitments that get in the way of coaching full-time.

Do you play/coach currently yourself?

No stress, anonymity is fine here :)

Yes, Darren is an ex-Axeman. if he's still in the same line of work when I played at BH with him, then it would be hard for him to commit full time. Still, doesn't dispute from a vast wealth of knowledge he could share with aspiring Rebels.

Sadly, no more playing for me. Started in 94, played at School/Box Hill, stopped in 2004, went as did a few Masters degrees, family etc... However, I've had a Achilles tendon repair, and now more recently recovering from a Quad tendon / Knee separation. The latest injury happened when I was (wait for it) watching Rugby down at Box Hill. Suffice to say, playing days are over, but the passion for the game still burns, hence why GAGR is a great outlet. Coaching, perhaps one day.

My eldest is interested in playing, and I live right near 'Quins, so I get him registered down there.

Which school? IMO, the sooner you get into coaching the sooner you won't be shit at it.

Don't do that! Quins and Box Hill aren't so far apart travel wise. There's a massive issue in Vic junior rugby with every kid going to Quins or Wydnham. Even Moorabin and Endeavour aren't doing as well as they used to, and Norths is virtually non-existent. These were the key feeders in my day.

It's a real shame.

If he had his way his son would play for BH, but honestly his house is way to close to Quins that it would be wrong not to play their. It's walking distance, I even park my car their and walk for Rising games.

I did tell him make his son sign a contract with him, that he has to move to BH for seniors.

I see your point, but they are only 10 minutes drive apart.

I hear you, and KevinO is right; if I had my way he would be a Bronco. Then again, he needs to make his own mark.

Basically, when it comes to fitting in another sport, in among all the activities my three sons do, 20 minutes can be a lot. Especially for my better half, who does the pickup/drop off to training during the week.

If I was playing at Box Hill, then it might be a different story. However, since my (failing) body has other ideas, no more playing for me. Which means location wins, for now.

Being able to walk is massive though.

If you're talking about living in Burwood or Glen Waverley, then yeah, Broncos over quins every day of the week.

Being able to walk down with the kid and the gear rather than having to deal with car shit, especially if there's smaller ones is so valuable.

Stops mattering for a little bit, but then the ability for them to get to training without needing driven or to take a couple of methods of public transport is invaluable when they're in Middle to late secondary, and they are able to/want to do shit on their own but can't drive.

Long as he plays Seniors for the Broncos, it's a good decisions.

Sorry, forgot to answer that bit. Started playing at Yarra Valley Grammar, in it's final year of Rugby. The Principal at the time was very pro Aussie rules, and the gun Rugby Coach (Chris Taylor) was poached by Scotch College.

When the team closed down, I started playing at Croydon (now Maroondah), but had to play Aussie rules for School as they had a compulsory sports policy. Not a bad thing, but it can get tiring. I once had to play a game of OZ rules at Mentone (10 of our guys, 18 + bench for them), then high-tail it out to Croydon for a match against Moorabbin, who at he time were chock full of state players. Only way I got of out Aussie rules was to play rep Rugby.

With no inside knowledge, my guess would be that we were in talks with both him and Mafi, then Higgers eventually said something along the lines of "If I do come back, I'd like to play in Queensland again." Then we fully committed to signing Mafi.

That backline suggested (by Horan?) still looks to have a few questions about it. Not sure about the comparison between this squad and the first year of Link either. Seems to be a lot more established players available for Stiles than were there for Link.

EDIT : sorry for posting this in the Rebels' thread - should have been in the Reds clearly.
