Not sure if Thompson is really what the rebels backrow needed.

Still a handy player but the rebels have lost a major attacking outlet in Higgers and I don't think Thompson provides the same qualities

Pretty happy with this signing, a World Class player who was the best at the Reds last season. Can teach the young guys a few things.

Probably the best replacement for Higgers that we could have signed at the moment.

How many backrowers do the Rebels need?

4. L. Timani
5. L. Jones
6. McMahon
7. Reid
8. Thomson

12. C. Fainga'a :)

20. Fuglistaller
Can never have enough backrowers. He brings pace and linebreaking ability out wide. A McMahon-Reid-Thomson backrow is a lot of fun. Colby at 7 could work just fine too. Need an 8 who can jump if McMahon is the 6 and Timani is locking, so it's a good shout.

A big hard bastard lock would be nice, and I still think they should have given Gray a call, but they've made plenty worse signings than this.

Should have pencilled in Gray. But I suppose he steps into Palu's shoes at the Tahs.

Agree, a big lock would be good. Timani does a good job there but he'd have a supe-ceiling in that position IMO. With experience at 8 he might be in the mix with Vaea and Grey to succeed Palu at the next level.

But it seems it's not to be.

Mmm I don't think he's quick or explosive enough to play 8 at the top level. He plays heavy. Everything we wanted Sita to be only five inches shorter.

He's shown he can be a good Soup lock, don't blame the Rebels for persisting with it.

He probably hasn't got the hands either TBF but non-Test players, so-called, do get capped.

You make the best of what you've got and that includes the Rebels selections at lock.

The Rebels have tweeted that they are going to announce another player signing tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas who this might be?

Hahaha... I doubt it given our recent signings. Although we have been signing a lot of Reds players the last couple of years.

What's your current marquee allowance and does Thomson fill it? Would love to see the rebels bring pyle back.

Edit: was looking for his contract status and found this

HUGH Pyle capped a strong season in the France by helping Stade Francais win the Top 14 premiership title at the weekend, by beating Clermont in the final.

We hear the former Rebels lock and Wallabies squad member is back in the sights of the ARU, and several Australian clubs, who are all keen to bring Pyle back home when his contract expires in France midway through next year.

Watch this space.

it must be two, Thomson and Ellison. They are also allowed a Japanese, or were, gratis so to speak.
Pyle has just won a Top14 premiership and i would be very doubtful he will return anytime soon

I wonder what Pyle would think about playing under TT again though?

I don't think Blake Enever is signed anywhere for next year. He wouldn't be a bad get.

I'll throw it out there. Sione Tuipuloto. I think they'll be wanting to keep him in Melbourne. Still got 2 years to go in the 20's and although he's not quite there yet, it's a great marketing ploy. He started all but 1 game for the Aus 20's. Just a stab.
