If they absolutely have to the Rebels should take Barnes OR Harris, but not both. My preference'd be for Barnes, Harris looks like an undistinguished journeyman to me, what LG'd call a "nosepicker". No offence to Mike but, surely, there's more promising talent looking for a run in one of our Super sides.

I find it odd that the perennial cellar dwellars of Aus with little to no depth at 10/12 and 15 can and should do better than a Wallaby, Super Rugby winning utility who has still probably been one of the best 5 players in an average Reds outfit in 2014.

Harris didn't win a Super Rugby title

If I was the Rebels, I'd take Harris in a flash.

And Barnes if he was available.

Depends on what Coach Tony has in mind.

On the face of it, I would think we are looking for a proven 10 to fill the depth gap, and provide a mentoring role for Bryce Hegarty.

And potentially someone who can offer cover across 10, 12 and 15. Not adequate cover, excellent cover.

If that is the extent of it, my vote is for Barnes all day every day.

IMHO, I would also agree with a previous comment that Harris has a Test-standard boot attached to an adequate journeyman's body. It's not what the Rebels need.

Have you ever heard of this little thing called depth?

Signing Barnes and Harris would surely create too much depth in one area and leave gaps elsewhere.

The Rebels would be better served signing one of them and then signing someone who is more of an option at 13 in my opinion.

10 Barnes
11 ?
12 Harris
13 Inman
14 English
15 Woodward

If Woodward does go back to NZ play one of them at 15

Add Hegarty, Mitchell, Kingston, probably Sau, and Veanu to that list and I'm guessing they don't want to make space for both Barnes and Harris.

I imagine they'll be trying to ditch Roberts, but I doubt they'll want to push Hegarty out of the side in a hurry.

Barnes and Harris are a bit too like for like in my opinion and Hegarty is also of a similar style.

Fair bit of unwarranted hubris from Reds fans here. Can and should do better than Mike Harris?

Don't worry, I reckon he'd think he can and should do better than the Rebels too anyway.

Chin up champ. If he's signed as bench cover, then fair enough. At the moment I'd say he'd be behind Hegarty at 10, Inman at 12 and Woodward at 15. If Barnes is signed, then he's probably even further down the depth chart. Similarly if Ellision and/or Woodward stick around.

I just hope if he's signed he's not seen as the answer.

I hope the period on his contract is written as

"Contract beginning: Cruze Ah-Nau
Contract ending: Cruze Ah-Next-Year"

Interesting the article talks about an injury to Max. Don't think I've seen that on any of the injury reports posted by the club (I could be wrong).

Injuries to Toby Smith, Laurie Weeks and Max Lahiff at different stages of this season provided Ah-Nau with an opportunity to earn and then retain his spot.

Might explain that period of absence from the Rebels pine and Dewar shield.

yes i noted that, but agree no mention in the weekly posts. might be just a way of putting the sentence together and not literal in max's case.

i think we can because barnes is available and he is a much better player. harris only got the wallabies jersey out of the appalling lack of depth in australian backs during the deans era and numerous injuries.
he was one of the worst picks of deans era. he wasn't a shocker by any means, but in terms of comparing his skill level and ability to that of other wallaby backs - come one. any other era and he wouldn't have gotten a look in. there is way too much depth now for him to ever be mentioned again.
he wouldn't be horrible at the rebels, but if we can grab barnes as a ten and use him for 3 years to help nurture hegarty, hegarty has much more potential than harris.

agree and or looking to build wing depth as we are severely limited out wide at the moment. barnes can do 10,12, and 15 very well for us.

I wouldn't say there is way too much depth to be never mentioned again. He last played in November.

Last night was brutal in the contact area. It'll be interesting to see how the walking wounded got through.

Does anyone know where a non-foxtel subscriber can access a full replay of the match? The good accounts on youtube have progressively been culled, and there are often torrent packs of games but that's sometimes a bit iffy.

Any ideas?

Male had a cracking good game yesterday. Shota was solid without being spectacular and was benched with half an hour left. As a test match it didn't look much more than an opposed training run though.

None of Weeks, Burgess or Ellison looked too good straight after the game. Crumbs has to be pretty sore this morning, he's a tough little bugger though.
