Can't see why you'd take 3 x 7's into the game and leave a wrecking ball like Timani out of the squad altogether. I also worry about the outside pace too. Cheetahs wingers make a break I doubt whether English or Mitchell will have the pace to catch them. Kingston on the other hand.

Who's the 3rd 7? McMahon seems the average build for a 6. Though perhaps a touch light due to age.

English is pretty quick, I certainly don't think Kingston is noticeably faster.

While his preferred spot is 7, Fainga'a covers 6,7 & 8 which would explain his bench selection ahead of Timani. I can understand the Colby has to earn his spot over Fuglistaler argument & eventually I think he will but geez this young McMahon, with zero super rugby experience, must have played the lights out in the trials to get that starting spot ahead of Colby

I personally can't really understand the chat that Fugistaller is the 7 and it's his jersey to lose. The Rebels finished 4th out of 5 Aus teams in 2013. If you stick with incumbency I wouldn't back them to improve that.

Colby though has had a slow pre-season coming back from injuries, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were easing him back into it with the view of him peaking in the second half of the season.

I don't get all the talk of Timani either. He did fuck all at the Tahs, was lucky to get a game off the pine, came down to Melbourne in shithouse condition to kick off pre-season. Not at all surprised to see him outside the game day squad.

McMahon is the best player to slip through the Reds grasp in recent years, quality talent but still surprising to see him starting so soon.

He maybe TOCC, but we seems to have an overabundance of Backrowers up here at the moment. Who would you replace? Bearing in mind that Jarod Butler had to leave to get even a consistant bench spot....

I wouldn't replace anyone, I think the Reds have retained the right players for this season and next.. Longer term might be a different story, but it's difficult to project some players trajectories.

McMahon and browning can play the same positions and are of a similar age.. Browning is IMO the better of the two hence why he received a contract and McMahon didn't .. There quite simply wasn't enough room for all those back rowers in the Reds roster. That's not to say he isn't worthy of a contract, he most definitely is.

Once again underlining why, despite the various financial issues, the expanded conference will prove a winner. Plenty of guys who would otherwise missed their opportunity are getting a shot.

Who knows what effect the right environment can have on a young man? There's plenty of latent potential, sometimes it just needs the right key to unlock it.

I have to hand it to the new look revs. I don't think the Cheetahs really turned up but they were played off the park. Burgess a worthy man of the match. I don't think I have seen him much sharper than that.

We left a lot of points on the park but a great start.

While its hardly a precise metric, we did leave 15 points on the field there.

I will take your word on it. I was more focused on the points we were taking rather than what we left behind. Well I was after we got the third try anyway.

Now we need to win away.

We rolled them in every way possible. Their tries were from driven mauls from within 5m - any team is hard to stop from there.

Rebels looked fantastic through my rose glasses. Strong at the scrum, dominant for the most part at the ruck and by far the more creative team.

Need to work on the body height in contact. We got away with upright ball carries far too many times and should have been punished. Goal kicking stunk, but I'm unsure who else would take kicks?

#undefeated.

I'm obviously biased but last night was amazing. Easily one of the best games of rugby I've been too. And the Rebels best ever win imo (even better than our win against the Saders). If the boys improve even slightly week to week, then this year is going to be great...BUT KEEP THE LID ON!

My two key point from the game...

Ben McMahon could be the find of the year. Never did he look out of place, and for a kid that hasn't played much 15 man rugby, that's saying a lot. He selection was completely justified by the 20min mark.

And Pat Leafa, take a bow. Sure he wasn't perfect, far from it. But instead of letting the occasion get to him, he got on with the job. Not bad for a 3 string hooker. If he works on his line out throw, he'll go far. His work rate was fantastic, very Ged Robinson like!

Hot off the press!
The Rebels new recruit just landed...Male Sau.

The Rebels only have 2 full contract inside back playmakers with 14 caps between them.. I'd say the answer is yes. He seems to a good signing for depth
