While I would also prefer a young keen local, they have to recruit the best players available regardless of country in order to win some games. He does have a lot of promise.

Who knows, maybe Aussie Mike felt the same way when he came over? Hopefully after a bit of game time he feels like returning the favour to the club and potentially country that showed faith in him when nobody else would.

Yeah.doesnt sound that enthusiastic about playing for an Aussie franchise.we should be contracting players who are keen to be a Rebel!!
But remember it was to his home media. After Hansen made the song and dance about Aussie stealing.

Are the Rebels players in pre season training? I see JOC (James O'Connor) is having a nice break somewhere.

I think the Rebels will get a good year out of JO'C this year, I'd be seriously damaging to his career and the franchise itself if he doesn't put a good foot forward.

Obviously 2012 was not his fault but the reality is his body didn't hold up to it's large financial cost.

Ummm, no.

First of all these 'people' are athletes and not animals. If they break down, you do not weigh up the pros and cons of what they offer, its just the nature of the beast.

Besides any of that, he has paid for himself in spades.

JOC (James O'Connor) will have a good year next year, because he is an outstanding player, who works his arse off. Nothing other than getting back into a blue jersey will be driving him.

A strangely emotive response, I don't believe I said anything overly controversial.

Sorry if I personally offended you but it's not too outlandish to say that a player not on the field that is highly paid is waisted finances. I have nothing personally against JO'C and he's a very good footballer, but it'd be bad for him to be branded as an injury prone player and a risky investment this young.

I don't want to see another Cameron Shepherd and I don't think it's dehumanising to voice that opinion.

Yeah. Not to sure why, he doesn't interest me tbh.
You think Mitchell is a better 12 than JOC (James O'Connor) so I'm not entirely surprised.

He's still getting over his hamstring as far as I know, seems to be a re-occurring problem so it's good to see he's not being rushed into pre-season.

A player's activities away from the club hardly weigh heavily on my opinion as to their position within the team.

To be honest, I don't care what they do away from the club, as long as they're not doing a Cipriani.

Any talk of who our replacement hooker will be? Would of been great if we signed Shota Horie but he's signed on for that Reds academy thing.

Given that we only have Ged otherwise, I'd suspect we'd be looking for a ready to play hooker over some Kid.

Shota Horie is a 26 year old that has played in a world cup and had everybody talking about him afterwards. He was also impressive in the ITM Cup which is where we seem to get all our other players from.

I'll admit I was unaware of the guy and the Academy thing threw me off track. That he's played internationally limits his options in Aus, but I can see why he might be a good get fro the Rebels in that instance.

All good, he's a relatively obscure player anyway. Give him a google, he's very promising. Between him, Tanaka, and the opensider called Lynch Japan are looking quite good for the future. I'd love to see them all pick up some Top 14 or Super rugby games but the Japanese are limited by the charity of the particular club the player pins his flag to for his career.

From what I hear the Rebels are looking toward the ITM Cup anyway for Hooker number 2 so being an international player mustn't be a limiting factor.

Maybe getting a hooker like Jamie George might be good. He can't make the England squad (he's still young) and right now Sarries have a ridiculous amount of hooking depth so maybe they'd sent him out way if they see it as an investment in their future.

clearly the rebels need a hooker good to go at S15 standard, preferably available now or in the near future for australia and wanting to stay in melbourne longterm, possibly even a victorian. an unlikely scenario, so just good to go will have to suffice. doesn't appear to be anyone in australia so OS we go, Europe, NZ, Argentina, Japan there must be someone available and at the right price
but, does anyone know how hard the franchise tried to get ulugia or silva at the start of 2011 or 2012, when both were available (i think). the young northern player, hooker for this years oz schoolboys side is obviously too young but he must be snaffled up now.

I'm quite sure current Samoan starting hooker Ole Avei is Victorian raised (though Kiwi born).

He's playing in Top 14 though but as a long term option perhaps he'd be keen to come down if he still has family here.

There's a photo of him training with the team just posted on facebook. The prop too.

He's already on the clipboard. It's a pity that he missed the tour to NZ because of a last minute injury else Oz rugby fans would know more about him.

We will all wish the best for this young Victorian rugby player - everybody except for TV commentators, that is.

Surely Phipps won't be our starting scrumhalf next year? He's actually getting worse with each game he plays at the moment.
