Rd 3 U20s World Cup - Aust v England Thursday, 10 July @ Payanini Center, Verona, 2.00 AM AEST

England well and truly pushed.

Great 2nd half by Aust.

Was definitely not expecting that result after England only lost to Sth Africa by 10 in the last round.

This is the end of the Rounds.

What a balls to the wall effort from the Aussie boys. Do yourself a favour and watch the last 30mins. Despite losing to a penalty goal in the last minute there was some brilliant and brutal play by the Aussies against a massive England team, the defending champions.

Aussies got absolutely hammered by the referee and yet still almost came away with a remarkable win after being down 26-7 after 50 mins.

Aussie backs were brilliant. Fowler, Enasio, Conway and Harvey were excellent in attack.

Aussie forwards physically took on a massive England pack and more than held their own. Eamon Doyle was phenomenal and brutal in attack and defence, and well supported by Mangelsdorf. Boy they stood up to the huge England second row.

Problem for the Aussies was that they fell apart 10 mins either side of half time yet again, conceding 21-0 and that period was the difference unfortunately.

Definitely some pride restored after the horrible SA outing.

Semi finalists:
SA, France, NZ, Argentina.

5-8 playoffs:
Eng, Aus, Italy, Wales

9-12 playoffs:
Ireland, Georgia, Spain, Scotland

Argues very lucky to make the SF thanks to a good draw, with two last minute wins against Spain and Wales and flooded by France but got 4 tries. SA unbackable favourites in that semi. NZ vs France will be a cracker in the other.

Thanks CR, good summary I reckon. Really feel for our boys after that one. Refereeing definitely influenced the outcome. England got away with being constantly offside, numerous high tackles, and sealing off the ball at the breakdown. Sour grapes? Yeah, for sure.

Bloody hell it’s hard not to be impressed by our boys. So much smaller yet absolutely gave it to the Poms. Doyle really is some player, bloody hell he’s good, and Fowler and Harvey answered their critics I reckon. Yep, we did plenty wrong in defence but they sure did restore some pride.
