Top game this - Rays win 32-29 - cracking game.

Crowd 2080 - not bad since only one team was from Sydney.

Great effort from local Perth boys who had many players I had never seen before, at the ground.

Lacey only lasted a few minutes and had to limp off.

4 Corey Thomas (Perth) went off before half-time in a lot of pain - looked like an arm injury, but could have been a shoulder.

A Rays' player got stretchered off - hopefully just precautionary - couldn't see who it was, but I didn't notice 13. Adams afterwards and Daruda came on to play at 12 and Sefania went to 13.

Terrific game from Peterson, but Gower scarcely less impressive in second half. Ditto for 6. Bergelin and 8. Ward who scored a hat-trick (two from lineout drives, one from a ball squirting out of the scrum and Ward picked it up near touch a long way from home but only grass in front of him; he made it).

Lucas best of backs though 14 Crawford and 15 Feltscheer had key moments.

9 Turner and 10 Holmes impressive for Perth ditto 15 Leyds, 11 Mailei and 12 Burton.

Pack attack and defence of Perth at the breakdown was outstanding considering they were Perth locals and the Rays guys were better known. 1 Savage was a good pack leader.

Big minus for the game was the lineouts. Rays gave up two tries because of poor throws in 2nd half: one directly from the lineout another after PS got field position - then to the goal line a couple of minutes later - then a Yellow Card to Killingworth and PS over directly.

Perth lineouts were also poo (add an "r" if you like), mainly in first half.

A good physical game from both sides. In the end one conversion was the difference; so 10 Angus should take a bow for one touchline conversion.

Any standouts in the Spirit's forwards, Lee?

^^^^
Savage was my pick but the thing I noticed most about them was their pack mentality and getting to the ruck quickly most of the time.

Lineout throwing was not so good especially when Abel (starter), was throwing but some of those may have been bad choreography.

Not that the Rays were than great when their reserve hooker came on.
