ODT article on the trial laws dated 23/12 twice refers to "Mitre 10 Cup".

Assuming M10 & ITM are roughly where they were at market share- & turnover-wise when I lived in NZ that probably represents a major sponsorship upgrade, from No. 4 in the building supplies & hardware market to No. 3 (Bunnings being No. 2 & PlaceMakers still No.1 AFAIK).

Mitre 10 are the largest now. Mitre 10 MEGA is the Bunnings of NZ now, with ITM being more specialist tradesmen focused (got told this at an ITM in Napier when I was helping my Nan with a fence and shed last time I was over.) I think the sponsorship deal means that Mitre 10 now Sponsors all levels of NZ Rugby XV's, so I would say that the total deal has more worth to NZRU than just the ITM Cup sponsorship deal by itself, as it has the Cup, Heartland, Womens and support for Club and School Rugby.

^^^^^^^ latest numbers I could find are PM $1.17 Bn, M10 $1.04 Bn & Bunnings $813 Mn (nothing for ITM who've always been secretive & have sites that can be ITM one year & Bunnings or PM the next). Figures for both Oz mobs are inflated by their also being into homewares etc.
