R3 Reds v Chiefs, turmoil in Townsville?

Henry and Vunivalu were both excellent, added an extra dimension to the attack.

The other Reds players that stood out were Tupou, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Wilson, McDermott and Paisami.

A lot of people are going on about "Chiefs started winning with 15 on the field blah blah".

The biggest turning point for me was when Tupou and McDermott came off. Both Nonggor and Thomas were a big step down.

That said I'm glad Thorne is giving the young kids some gametime, its the only way they'll get better. It's something teams like the Saders do very well.

Happy McDermott put in that shift after a patch of poor form, needed to keep in touch for Wallabies 23. Gordon still deserves that bench spot but if Tate keeps it up he'll be in with a sniff.

I think LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) was the best forward and MOTM, followed closely by Tupou as best forward, but Wilson was everywhere also and deserves an honourable mention

Our lack of depth in most parts is quite shocking.

I agree that McReight and Uru are the exception to this however ironically we might have enough depth in those positions that those two aren't being used as well as they could be. Most teams would much rather sub their 6 or 8 than their 7 and I think that showed late in the game tonight with Wilson not holding shape in defence and ASY (Angus Scott-Young) slowing to get up on a couple of occasions. Don't get me wrong though, they both had great games.

Uru is obviously at the standard of Super Rugby but I'm not sure he's there as a lock; we really seem to lack big engine grunt late in games (although LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) had a blinder tonight, but I still think we could have used another rock mover).

What this would mean in a hypothetical team that I am coaching is that one of Wright or McReight don't make the 23 at all and we have Uru as the bench loose forward. In this hypothetical team we have magically found a Super Rugby standard lock for the bench as well.

Yep, the hole from losing both Rodda and Hockings still remains. Although, I think Thorn would be happy with how Ryan Smith has been playing. He appears pretty strong in contact and dependable at the set piece.
